‘Agatha All Along’ Debuted with 72 % Critics Score on Rotten Tomatoes but It Keeps Plummeting, What Happened?

‘Agatha All Along’ has finally premiered with its first two episodes, delivering exactly what fans who have been following marketing closely have been waiting for. The show leans into its campy charm, blending witchcraft, pop culture references, and humor seamlessly.

With a solid foundation, it keeps viewers entertained and engaged just enough for us to sit through the rest of the episodes and see whether Agatha has a Loki-style redemption arc around the corner.

Now the initial premiere reactions were beyond positive, I’ve personally struggled to find early negative reviews but now that the reviewing embargo has been lifted and Rotten Tomatoes score has been revealed, it does not spell good for the show.

‘Agatha All Along’ debuted with 72% which is solid and still fresh, but the score keeps dropping rapidly and it currently sits at 66% based on 50 reviews, the audience score is surprisingly sitting at 78%.

The reactions are either overwhelmingly positive or overwhelmingly negative which just proves that the show is tailored for a very specific audience and it’s not quite everyone’s cup of tea. This spells a bad time if Disney is trying to target wider audiences. But anyway let’s look at some of the complaints:

It’s nowhere near as engaging [as …] WandaVision. [… Jac] Schaeffer did wonderfully with “sitcom as a coping mechanism for grief” but this is a whole new ballgame. And she can’t catch lightning in a bottle again.

A pleasant trifle that’s nothing more than a franchise footnote.

Nick Schager – The Daily Beast

Briefly, it seems as if the show is trying to unpack the anxieties of middle-aged women. But this is a complete guess. The queerbaiting, on the other hand, is more on the nose.

Rohan Naahar – The Indian Express

The first four episodes of Agatha All Along seem to be a precursor for a lackluster series. If there was ever evidence that the MCU’s quality is declining or that Disney+ TV shows are disappointing, look no further than this.

Jonathan Sim – ComingSoon.net

Agatha All Along is probably great by Marvel’s own standards, but for someone who has watched a ton of fantasy-horror movies and shows, this seemed really amateurish and boring.

Pramit Chatterjee – Digital Mafia Talkies

There’s very little super-power flash, aside from cheap cauldron effects and shape-changing. And then there are the musical interludes. One is novel, the second is a bit much. It brings a Disney tone to the show at the expense of the Marvel one.

John Kirk – Original Cin

A particularly egregious example of Marvel making no concessions to the casual viewer who might not have watched every film and TV series the Marvel machine has churned out like sausages.

Pat Stacey – Irish Independet

Considering MCU’s recent trend, it seems that ‘Agatha All Along’ is now being review-bombed by critics, continuing the trend that ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ started where critics weren’t exactly the targeted audience and did not understand all the references and themes so the score was naturally lower.
