‘Agatha All Along’ introduced plenty of characters important for the magical and occult side of the MCU connected to the Scarlet Witch. One of the most important ones is Billy Maximoff aka Wiccan.

Wiccan is one of the most famous magic users in Marvel Comics and has been a part of some significant storylines. If you’re familiar with the comics character you know that Wiccan is also gay in the comics and is currently in a relationship with Teddy Altman aka Hulkling.

In the show, Billy also has a boyfriend called Eddie, but he is reduced to only a few scenes. As soon as it was revealed that Billy has a boyfriend in the MCU fans assumed that we are most certainly dealing with Hulkling. ‘Agatha All Along’ showrunner Jac Shaeffer however revealed something altogether different.

The showrunner explained that there were initial plans to introduce Teddy Altman in the show as Billy’s boyfriend. Originally, the character – Eddie – was even going to be named Teddy, referencing the comics. However, Marvel decided not to introduce Hulkling’s Kree/Skrull hybrid identity in this series.

Instead, they named the character Eddie, as a tribute to someone important to the writers’ room. Schaeffer clarified that this change wasn’t meant to tease fans but was a way to honor someone significant to the team.

“There were early conversations [about Hulkling].[Eddie] was originally called Teddy because we were looking at the artwork and thinking about that. That was a Marvel decision to not have him be Hulkling for the purposes of our show.”

“Within our show, he is not Hulkling but we pivoted to Eddie because he is named after a person that is important to the writers’ room. It wasn’t sort of teasing the fans, it was one of those lovely tributes to somebody who matters to us.”

In the comics, Hulkling is an important part of Wiccan’s story, so it would make sense to introduce him somewhere down the line. Especially if the cinematic universe ventures into the Kree territory again, which seems likely to happen considering that the ‘Nova’ project is in development.

It’s also likely, considering that Schaeffer teased Billy’s future in the MCU, the two will have ample opportunities to meet. Eddie likely served his purpose in this part of Billy’s journey. Besides, he can always be revealed as the hybrid somewhere down the line.
