‘Agatha All Along’ continued the MCU’s tradition of inclusion and representation, especially when it comes to queer representation as one of the main characters was Joe Locke’s Wiccan who is one of the most popular gay superheroes in the comics.

Not only did the show deal with the themes in good taste, but it was also fairly accurate as Wiccan’s and Hulkling’s relationship is a major part of his identity in the comics.

Billy Maximoff has a boyfriend in the show, called Eddie. While Eddie eventually did not turn out to be MCU’s Hulkling for reasons that we will explain later, fans still developed a lot of theories surrounding the two.

ComicBookMovie recently had an opportunity to talk to Miles Gutierrez-Riley who portrayed Eddie in the show. Riley expressed gratitude for the positive response to Eddie and Billy, saying he was touched by the support.

He mentioned that everyone involved with ‘Agatha All Along’ worked hard to ensure authentic representation and to portray their relationship in a way that stayed true to the source material and deeply reflected Billy’s character.

Yeah, thank you, I appreciate that. I was really touched to see the positive response to Eddie and Billy, everyone behind the scenes at Agatha really cared about authentic representation and capturing this relationship in a way that honoured the source material and really got to the heart of Billy’s soul.

It’s really nice to be a part of the MCU and I’ve stressed it so much in interviews but working with Joe was my honor, it was really cool. He’s so smart and carried that show in such a beautiful way.

‘Smile 2’ star also expressed that he was happy with the positive response to Eddie and Billy’s relationship and teased that there are plans to further explore Billy’s background and journey.

On the speculation, all I can say is I was touched with how people responded to Eddie and Billy and I know that there are a lot of plans for how we’re going to continue exploring Billy’s background and life and journey and we’ll have to see.

As far as Eddie being Hulkling goes, Jac Schaeffer explained that there were initial plans to introduce Teddy Altman in the show as Billy’s boyfriend. Originally, Eddie was even going to be named Teddy, referencing the comics. However, Marvel decided not to introduce Hulkling’s Kree/Skrull hybrid identity in this series.

Instead, they named the character Eddie, as a tribute to someone important to the writers’ room. Schaeffer clarified that this change wasn’t meant to tease fans but was a way to honor someone significant to the team.

“There were early conversations [about Hulkling].[Eddie] was originally called Teddy because we were looking at the artwork and thinking about that. That was a Marvel decision to not have him be Hulkling for the purposes of our show.”

“Within our show, he is not Hulkling but we pivoted to Eddie because he is named after a person that is important to the writers’ room. It wasn’t sort of teasing the fans, it was one of those lovely tributes to somebody who matters to us.”
