Agatha debuted in the Disney+ series ‘WandaWision,’ as the nosy neighbour-turned-powerful witch who tried to steal Wanda’s powers. By the end of the show, Agatha is defeated and trapped in her noisy neighbor persona, left powerless, which will obviously translate to the first episode of the show. The two characters share a connection from the comics, with Agatha being one of the most powerful magic users in the Marvel Comics Universe.

The fans took a liking to the live-action version of the character, and by October 2021, Marvel Studios began developing a dark comedy spin-off from ‘WandaVision’ focused on Kathryn Hahn’s character.

Hahn’s involvement was part of a broader deal with Marvel Studios, and the series was officially announced as ‘Agatha: House of Harkness’ during the Disney+ Day event in November 2021. However, the title underwent further changes, becoming ‘Agatha: Coven of Chaos’ in July 2022 and ultimately being renamed to ‘Agatha: Darkhold Diaries’ in September 2023. Now if the official Disney+ site is to be believed the show will simply be called ‘Agatha’ with all the former titles instead serving as episode titles.

This is something that was hinted at by various leakers and scoopers online and was sort of a marketing stint and something you would expect from Agatha herself.

The series was originally anticipated for late 2023, but the release was rescheduled amid Disney and Marvel Studios’ content reassessment, with only ‘Secret Invasion’ and the second season of ‘Loki’ releasing in 2023.

‘Agatha’ is set to debut on Disney+ in late 2024 with a total of nine episodes, as a part of Phase Five of the MCU.
