‘Agatha: Darkhold Diaries’: Title Changes Maybe Aren’t Happening Because of Marvel’s Indecision

The upcoming Disney+ MCU series ‘Agatha: Darkhold Diaries’ is still roughly a year away after the latest round of delays, but it has already become unique for something that never happened in the history of the MCU. When the series was first announced in 2021, the official title was ‘Agatha: House of Harkness.’ However, at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige revealed a new title: ‘Agatha: Coven of Chaos,’ and the series was recently retitled again to ‘Agatha: Darkhold Diaries.’

This isn’t the first time that Marvel Studios changed the title of already announced projects; ‘The Marvels,’ which is set to open in theaters this November, was initially announced simply as ‘Captain Marvel 2,’ and the fourth ‘Captain America’ movie was officially announced last year as ‘Captain America: New World Order,’ before the title was changed earlier this year to ‘Captain America: Brave New World.’ However, it never happened to any MCU project that the official title was changed twice. But when we look at it, it looks like all these changes didn’t happen because of the studio’s indecision.

The ‘Agatha’ series keeps changing titles, and there might be some other reason for it.

As the known news outlet Variety recently reported, some sources claim that the upcoming spin-off series starring Kathryn Hahn isn’t changing titles because someone at Marvel Studios can’t make up their mind.

The other potential reason could be that this is some sort of public stunt to promote the series, saying that title changes are happening because of “Agatha’s skulduggery.” If this is true, does that mean that the title could be changed again before the series finally drops on Disney+?

“A source with knowledge of the show says that the changing titles are less a sign of indecision on Marvel’s part and more a suggestion that Agatha is up to her old skulduggery.”

The series wrapped production last May, so the production wasn’t affected by the ongoing strikes in Hollywood, but the series was still delayed to Fall 2024. Back in May, the series’ star Aubrey Plaza posted an image from the set that revealed the current official title, which means that this latest title change was planned for a while.

How Powerful Is Agatha Harkness Compared to Other MCU Characters?

Kathryn Hahn debuted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Wanda’s lousy neighbor in Westview in the ‘WandaVision’ series- Her character Agnes later turned out to be a secret villain, Agatha Harkness, and her reveal was followed by the Grammy Award-winning song ‘Agatha All Along.’

Scarlet Witch ultimately defeats Agatha and decides to punish her by locking her up in her lousy neighbor persona. Although Hahn’s performance received widespread acclaim from critics and fans, we were all surprised when Marvel Studios announced that the spin-off series was in development.

Created by Jac Schaeffer, the creator of ‘WandaVision,’ and starring Kathryn Hahn in the title role, ‘Agatha: Darkhold Diaries,’ or whatever it is going to be called when it premieres, is now scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in the Fall of 2024. The series will consist of nine episodes, and if the title changes again, the only response can be: “Again?”
