The Jedi Order has existed for thousands of years and has always been there whenever there was any kind of crisis in the Star Wars galaxy. Of course, that means that we have seen our fair share of powerful and prominent Jedi throughout the history of Star Wars. Undoubtedly, the most prominent of these Jedi were the Jedi Masters, who were the very symbol of wisdom and discipline within the Jedi Order.
While the current Star Wars canon has only scratched the surface of the deeper Star Wars lore that follows the 25,000-year history of the Jedi Order, we’ve already seen many Jedi Masters featured in the movies, shows, and books. So, with that said, let’s look at all of the Jedi Masters that ever existed ranked in terms of how important they were.
56. Prosset Dibs
Prosset Dibs was a Jedi Master who was active during the Clone Wars and was one of the survivors of Order 66. When he lost his life in the Jedi Order and the Republic, Mace Windu fought him. After the fall of the Jedi Order, Dibs became one of the Inquisitors working for the Empire and was the Tenth Brother.
55. Zia Zaldor Zanna
While not the most important Jedi we’ve seen in the storyline of Star Wars, Zia Zaldor Zanna has seen her fair share of screentime in the lore because she was featured in ‘Sar Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures.’ As a Jedi Master, she was in charge of the training of the Jedi initiates on Tenoo during the time of the High Republic, which took place centuries before the Skywalker Saga.
54. Katri
Featured in ‘Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi,’ Katri was a Jedi Master who sat at the Jedi High Council decades before the Skywalker Saga. She was killed offscreen by a group of security guards on Raxus Secundus. Her death allowed Mace Windu to fill her seat in the Jedi Council after he and Dooku uncovered the plot that led to her death.
53. Minas Velti
There were quite a few Jedi Masters stationed at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant during the outbreak of Order 66. Minas Velti was one of them as she fought hard to protect Reva and the other younglings from Anakin Skywalker and the clone troopers. Anakin’s 501st Legion eventually killed her during the Siege of the Jedi Temple.
52. Ord Enisence
Ord Enisence was a Jedi Master during the time of the Clone Wars. Ord was at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant a year after the war’s start. However, Cad Bane infiltrated the Jedi Temple and had to kill Ord so that the shapeshifting bounty hunter named Cato Parasitti could assume Ord’s appearance and steal an important Holocron from the Jedi Temple.
51. Ima-Gun Di
Ima-Gun Di was a Kajain’sa’Nikto Jedi Master who was active during the Clone Wars. Unfortunately, he didn’t last long enough because he eventually saw his end during the Ryloth Campaign in the first year of the Clone Wars.
50. Bolla Ropal
During the Clone Wars, Bolla Ropal was the keeper of the Kyber memory crystal but was eventually captured by the bounty hunter Cad Bane. He was tortured mercilessly in Bane’s effort to force him to unlock the Jedi Holocron containing the memory crystal. However, he refused to do so as he died without ever helping Cad Bane.
49. Coleman Kcaj
Coleman Kcaj was a male Jedi Master who actually sat at the Jedi High Council during the events of the Clone Wars. He was one of the few Jedi who survived Order 66 and went into hiding during the time of the Empire. However, the Inquisitors eventually captured and killed him sometime between 14 and 9 BBY.
48. Roth-Del Masona
Roth-Del Masona was one of the Jedi Masters who participated in the First Battle of Geonosis. He was actually the adjutant of Mace Windu during the Clone Wars and was there when General Grievous infiltrated Coruscant to capture Chancellor Palpatine. The cyborg general killed him while he was protecting Palpatine.
47. Khaat Qiyn
Khaat Qiyn was one of the Jedi Masters who participated in the First Battle of Geonosis. Not much is known about her except for the fact that she was the one who trained Bairdon Jace. They fought alongside one another on Geonosis on 22 BBY.
46. Nicanas Tassu
In the events of the First Battle of Geonosis, we know that Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi were initially without their weapons as they were captured by the Separatists beforehand. When the Jedi strike force led by Mace Windu arrived, Nicanas Tassu was one of the Jedi Masters who fought the Separatists. He was the one who tossed Anakin the green lightsaber that he used during that battle.
45. Ekim Ryelli
Ekim Ryelli was a Jedi Master who participated in the First Battle of Geonosis and was one of the survivors of that monumental battle. He eventually lived during the Clone Wars but was killed in 19 BBY.
44. Tiplar
One of the most important characters in the greater storyline of the Order 66 side-story in Star Wars is Tiplar, who was one of the Mikkian twins of the Jedi Order. She and her sister were participating in a battle until Tup’s clone shot and killed her when his Order 66 inhibitor chip malfunctioned and forced him to kill her. Tiplar’s death ultimately contributed to Ahsoka Tano, Captain Rex, and the Bad Batch learning about the existence of this inhibitor chip.
43. Tiplee
Tiplee was the twin sister of Tiplar, who was killed by a clone trooper before the events of Order 66. After her sister’s death, Tiplee became more aggressive as she was still grieving Tiplar’s demise. Nevertheless, she found herself dying at the hands of Count Dooku during the latter portion of the Clone Wars.
42. Tera Sinube
Tera Sinube was an elderly Jedi Master who was still active despite his age. He was a master detective among the Jedi and was able to help Ahsoka Tano track down her stolen lightsaber during the Clone Wars. He survived Order 66 but was captured and entombed by the Inquisitors on 9 BBY.
41. Santari Khri
Santari Khri was one of the Jedi Masters during the time of the High Republic. She was featured in ‘Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’ as Dagan Gera’s closest friend within the Jedi Order. Khri supported Gera’s dreams of establishing a Jedi Temple on Tanalorr until the Jedi Council rejected the idea. She eventually had to duel and defeat her friend when Dagan fell to the dark side, and Santari kept him in suspended animation in a Bacta tank for centuries.
40. Roan Shryne
Roan Shryne was a Jedi Master who survived the First Battle of Geonosis. He fought during the Clone Wars and even avoided Order 66 for a while. However, Darth Vader eventually found and killed him shortly after the fall of the Jedi Order as the Sith Lord destroyed him on Kashyyyk.
39. Pong Krell
Pong Krell was a Jedi Master who had a vision of the Jedi Order losing the Clone Wars, and that was why he decided to turn to the dark side and sabotage his clone troopers to win Count Dooku’s favor. He was eventually defeated and captured by the very clones he tried to sabotage and kill. Krell was executed on Umbara on 20 BBY, just after the clones captured him.
38. Stass Allie
Stass Allie was a Jedi Master who was an active Jedi High Council member before the Jedi Order’s fall. After the latter’s death, she replaced her cousin, Adi Gallia, on the council. However, she eventually followed her cousin to the afterlife when her clones killed her on Saleucami during Order 66.
37. Coleman Trebor
Coleman Trebor was an active member of the Jedi High Council before the start of the Clone Wars. He was one of the Jedi who went to Geonosis and participated in the First Battle of Geonosis. In his attempt to engage Count Dooku in a fight, he was shot and killed by Jango Fett before he could even react.
36. Agen Kolar
A Zabrak Jedi Master, Agen Kolar sat on the Jedi High Council during the time of the Clone Wars. He survived until the war’s end and was one of the Jedi Masters who accompanied Mace Windu to force Chancellor Palpatine to give up his emergency powers. However, Palpatine resisted arrest and revealed himself as Darth Sidious. Kolar died rather quickly when Palpatine engaged the four Jedi Masters in a duel.
35. Aayla Secura
Aayla Secura was a Twi’lek Jedi Master who was active during the Clone Wars and one of the Jedi who survived until the war’s end. However, when Palpatine initiated Order 66, she was one of the first Jedi to die as her clone troopers shot her multiple times on Felucia. Her spirit endured in the afterlife as she was one of the Jedi who lent her power to Rey on Exegol.
34. Oppo Rancisis
Oppo Rancisis was a serpentine Jedi Master who sat on the Jedi High Council during the events of ‘The Phantom Menace.’ He was one of the Jedi who was there when Qui-Gon Jinn presented Anakin Skywalker to the council. He retired from his duties and became one of the few Jedi who survived Order 66. It is yet to be known whether or not he survived the era of the Empire.
33. Yarael Poof
Yarael Poof was a Jedi Master who sat on the Jedi High Council just before the start of the Clone Wars. However, he died on a mission on 22 BBY as he wasn’t even there to help the Jedi during the First Battle of Geonosis.
32. Jocasta Nu
Jocasta Nu was one of the older members of the Jedi Order and was the one in charge of taking care and looking after the Jedi Archives in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Nu survived Order 66 and even infiltrated the Jedi Temple during the Imperial era. However, she died in a duel with Darth Vader even though she could put up a good fight against the Sith Lord.
31. Even Piell
Even Piell was a Jedi Master who was active during the time of the Clone Wars and was one of the Clone Wars and was known for his somewhat grumpy personality. He was a Jedi Council member but could not live through the Clone Wars because he died during the Citadel Rescue on Lola Sayu in 20 BBY.
30. Yaddle
Yaddle was one of only three members of Yoda’s species and was a member of the Jedi Council a decade before the Clone Wars. She was the first to discover Darth Sidious’s existence and his partnership with Count Dooku. However, in what was his final act before completely becoming a Sith Lord, Dooku defeated and killed Yaddle, who was nearly 500 years old at the time of her death.
29. Taron Malicos
Taron Malicos was a powerful Jedi Master during the time of the Clone Wars and was one of the few Jedi who were able to survive Order 66. He spent five years on Dathomir, where he lost his mind and fell to the dark side. Malicos was defeated by Cal Kestis on Dathomir after he revealed that he had fallen to the dark side of the Force.
28. Stellan Gios
Stellan Gios was a Jedi Master who lived during the time of the High Republic and was one of the best friends of Elzar Mann and Avar Kriss when they were still Padawans. While he remained close to them as he rose through the ranks of the Jedi, Stellan became a bit standoffish. Nevertheless, he was respected among all of the Jedi due to his strength and ability to teach other Jedi.
27. Loden Greatstorm
A powerful Twi’lek Jedi Master during the time of the High Republic, Loden Greatstorm was the master of Bell Zettifar and was one of the best pilots in the entire galaxy at that time. He was known to be a great teacher who understood how to push people to their limits so that they could learn something new about the Force all on their own.
26. Jaro Tapal
Jaro Tapal was the Jedi Master of Cal Kestis during the time of the Clone Wars. He was a powerful and strong Lasat Jedi who was so wise that he was held in high regard by Anakin Skywalker himself. Jaro was like a father to Cal as he even sacrificed his own life to keep his Padawan safe in their attempt to escape Order 66. He died shortly after he and Cal were able to survive the purge.
25. Eno Cordova
Eno Cordova was the master of Cere Junda and was one of the greatest Jedi Masters when it came to exploration. He was known for researching ancient ruins, especially those that belonged to ancient civilizations long gone. Cordova may not have been a strong fighter, but he raised Cere to be a strong Jedi. However, he lost his life when Bode Acuna betrayed Cal Kestis.
24. Saesee Tiin
Saesee Tiin was known as one of the greatest pilots of the Jedi Order during the Clone Wars and was a respected member of the Jedi High Council. He survived through the entire war, only for him to see his end at the hands of Palpatine. Darth Sidious quickly killed him when he revealed himself as the Sith Lord who had been hiding in plain sight.
23. Eeth Koth
Eeth Koth was a strong Jedi Master who earned a seat on the Jedi High Council during the Clone Wars. He fought General Grievous on par and was even able to survive the initial purge of Order 66, Koth went on to form a family during the reign of the Empire, only for Darth Vader to find him. Vader used Koth’s family against him as he killed the Jedi Master after he put up a valiant effort against the Sith Lord.
22. Porter Engle
Arguably the strongest Jedi Master of his time, Porter Engle was a legend during the High Republic era and was one of the greatest duelists and hand-to-hand fighters the Star Wars lore has ever seen. However, he eventually retired to become a humble cook. Nevertheless, Engle could still defeat any other Force wielder during the time of the High Republic, as hardly anyone could match his ferocity in a fight.
21. Adi Gallia
Adi Gallia was a member of the Jedi Council during the Clone Wars and actively participated in many different battles and missions. She fought alongside Obi-Wan Kenobi against the duo of Darth Maul and Savage Opress. However, Gallia was killed by Savage Opress, who used his superior strength against her.
20. Quinlan Vos
Quinlan Vos was a unique Jedi Master who was born with a rare gift called Psychometry, which allowed him to use the Force to read the memories of inanimate objects. He was also known as a renegade among the Jedi because he wasn’t always doing things in line with the will of the Jedi Council. Vos eventually survived the events of Order 66 even though he momentarily fell to the dark side. He went on to help smuggle Force-sensitive people away from the Empire.
19. Elzar Mann
Elzar Mann was one of the most prominent Jedi during the High Republic era. He was close friends with Avar Kriss and Stellan Gios and was one of the most unconventional Jedi of that time because he never liked using the power of the Force the same way twice. That was why he tried to find ways to use the Force in different manners, as he experimented with it many times. And while many of his experiments failed, he only understood the nature of the Force more.
18. Avar Kriss
Avar Kriss was a Jedi Master during the High Republic era and was a powerful Force wielder because she saw the Force as a song. This allowed her to use a unique ability that could bond the Force powers of different Force wielders and link them with one another like a song played with different instruments. And with this power, she played an important role in saving countless lives in the Hetzal system.
17. Sifo Dyas
While we never saw Sifo Dyas alive during the time of the Skywalker Saga, he played one of the most important roles ever, as it was through his vision that he decided to go to Kamino and request them to create a clone army for the Republic. Although Sifo was only being manipulated by Count Dooku and Darth Sidious, it was through him that the clone army was created. However, he ended up dying ten years before the Clone Wars broke out.
16. Kelleran Beq
Kelleran Beq was a Jedi Master who was known to train younglings in the Jedi Temple. Called the Sabered Hand, he was an extremely skilled duelist and one of the best in fighting using two lightsabers. He was the one who was responsible for rescuing Grogu from the Jedi Temple as they ended up escaping Coruscant together during the height of Order 66.
15. Cin Drallig
Cin Drallig was the Jedi Battlemaster of his time and was one of the greatest duelists in the entire Jedi Order. He was known as the best instructor when it came to lightsaber combat, and that was because he mastered all of the six lightsaber combat forms that the Jedi were supposed to know. However, Cin Drallig died at Anakin Skywalker’s hands during the Jedi Temple Siege.
14. Luminara Unduli
Known as one of the wisest Jedi Masters of her time, Luminara Unduli was the master of Barriss Offee and was one of the most influential members of the Jedi High Council. At some point during the rise of the Empire, Luminara was captured. The Empire used her corpse to lure out any remaining Jedi who could sense her power and presence.
13. Shaak Ti
Shaak Ti was one of the most influential members of the Jedi High Council during the Clone Wars and was well-known for her eye for talent. In fact, she was so good at seeing talent and skills in battle that she was the one overseeing the training of the clones on Kamino. Shaak Ti died when Anakin stabbed her in the back while she was trying to communicate with the other Jedi in the galaxy.
12. Kit Fisto
Known as the Smiling Jedi, Kit Fisto was one of the best duelists in the Jedi Order and was also known for his influence within the Jedi Council. He was very wise and powerful, as he specialized in using Form I: Shii-Cho. Kit Fisto was also good enough to last a few seconds in the duel against Palpatine, unlike the two other Jedi Masters, who quickly fell to Sidious’ blade.
11. Cere Junda
While she was never an influential member of the Jedi Order, Cere Junda became an important Jedi Master in the events of the ‘Star Wars Jedi’ video games as she played the role of Cal Kestis’ mentor. Although she lost her connection to the Force when the Inquisitors tortured her, she eventually regained it and became stronger. Cere fought against Vader and was about to kill him before a last-minute attack from the Sith Lord found its mark.
10. Ki-Adi-Mundi
Known as one of the most intelligent members of the Jedi High Council, Ki-Adi-Mundi was arguably just as important as any other member of the Jedi Order and was often looked up to by the other Jedi due to his wisdom. He was a strong and powerful Jedi Master who could put up a fight against some of the strongest Force wielders in the galaxy. However, he ended up dying when his clone troopers peppered him with countless blaster bolts during Order 66.
9. Depa Billaba
Depa Billaba was the master of Caleb Dume, who we know as Kanan Jarrus. She was a strong and wise Jedi Master who learned the ways of the Force under Mace Windu. While she was one of only two Jedi who knew how to use Form VII: Vaapad, Depa specialized in using Form III: Soresu, the same form she taught her Padawan.
8. Count Dooku
Count Dooku may have been a powerful Sith Lord at the end of his life, but he used to be a Jedi Master. He trained under Yoda as a Padawan and was also the master of Qui-Gon Jinn. Dooku lost faith in the Jedi when he saw how corrupt the Republic was and how the Jedi Order just didn’t seem to care about the corruption within the Senate. Throughout his lifetime, Dooku was known as one of the greatest duelists, matched only by the likes of Yoda and Mace Windu.
7. Plo Koon
Plo Koon was one of the best Jedi Masters of the final days of the Jedi Order and was also right up there with Anakin Skywalker as one of the best pilots in the galaxy. He was the Jedi who found Ahsoka Tano and brought her to the Jedi Temple when she was just a child, making him one of the most important Jedi in the life of one of the most important characters. Plo died when clones shot down his starfighter during Order 66.
6. Mace Windu
Jedi Master Mace Windu was one of the strongest duelists of all time and was the only one who was able to defeat Palpatine in a straight-up duel. He was second only to Yoda in terms of his influence in the Jedi Order, and that’s because all of the Jedi respected his strength and authority. Windu’s death completed Anakin’s fall to the dark side as Skywalker betrayed him and allowed Palpatine to kill him.
5. Qui-Gon Jinn
Known as a rebellious and defiant Jedi Master, Qui-Gon Jinn was the master of Obi-Wan Kenobi and was the same Jedi who found Anakin Skywalker on Tatooine and deemed him the Chosen One. Qui-Gon was aware of the Prophecy of the Chosen One and was actively trying to learn more about it until he met Anakin. He was supposed to train Anakin but died at the hands of Darth Maul on Naboo.
4. Yoda
Jedi Grand Master Yoda was the strongest and wisest Jedi of his time and was one of the few people who could match Darth Sidious in a fight. He was 900 years old at the time of his death, meaning he has seen it all during his time as a Jedi. Yoda completed Luke Skywalker’s training and offered him guidance and wisdom during the events of the sequel trilogy.
3. Obi-Wan Kenobi
Often called the unsung Star Wars hero, Obi-Wan Kenobi was a true Jedi Master in every sense of the word. He was the one who trained Anakin Skywalker in the ways of the Force and was the one who had to sacrifice everything just so he could live on Tatooine and watch over Luke for almost 20 years. Obi-Wan was also the only person strong enough to defeat Vader, not once but twice.
2. Rey Skywalker
While we never really knew how Rey Skywalker became a Jedi Master, the Jedi Order will now follow her wherever she goes as she is now looking to re-establish it under her leadership. She was the daughter of Palpatine’s clone and quickly rejected her grandfather’s offer to take her place as the empress of the Sith Empire. Now a true Jedi Master, Rey is set to continue her story in her upcoming film set 15 years after the true death of Palpatine.
1. Luke Skywalker
Out of all of the Jedi Masters in Star Wars, Luke Skywalker is undoubtedly the most important one because he was the one who helped bring balance back to the Force by redeeming his father. Luke was also the one who gave hope to the galaxy when he destroyed the Death Star. Of course, he became the first to try to re-establish the Jedi Order before it ultimately failed again. Nevertheless, he redeemed his failures by passing the torch to Rey.
