Spider-Woman is a character that came in many incarnations throughout comics, TV shows, and movies – especially since 2018 when ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ came out. From Gwen Stacy and Jessica Drew to Julia Carpenter, here’s the ultimate list of all seven movies and TV shows featuring any version of Spider-Woman in order.

Movies (& shows) featuring Spider-Woman in order by release date

Spider-Woman first appeared outside of Marvel comics in an animated show, ‘Spider-Woman,’ in 1979. Since then, various versions of the character have appeared in four additional shows and movies, with two more films underway, expected in 2024. If you want to dive right into the list, here’s every Spider-Woman appearance in movies and TV shows in order by release date:

  1. Spider-Woman (1979-1980)
  2. Iron Man (1994-1996)
  3. Ultimate Spider-Man (2012-2017)
  4. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
  5. Spider-Man: Across the Spider (2023)
  6. Madame Web (TBR Feb 14, 2024)
  7. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse (TBD)

The last film on the list – ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’ – was supposed to come out in March 2024. However, due to the industry-wide strikes, the film was pushed and is currently removed from Sony’s release schedule. We’ll likely learn more about its release date soon, now that the strikes are officially over.

Throughout the rest of the article, we’ll explain how these movies and shows are or aren’t connected to each other and what the best way to watch them is. Be careful, as there may be some minor spoilers from this point forward.

Are all movies and shows featuring Spider-Woman connected? What’s the best way to watch them?

Not all the shows and movies featuring Spider-Woman are connected to each other. In fact, most of them aren’t. The only three movies that are actually connected to each other plot-wise are the Spider-Verse trilogy. And even in those films, the third movie – ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’ – hasn’t yet been released.

As for the rest of the entries on this list, each of them is essentially a separate project that features different versions of Spider-Woman.

For instance, Jan Van Ark voiced the Jessica Drew version of Spider-Woman in the ‘Spider-Woman’ series. The next time we saw Spider-Woman in the ‘Iron Man’ series, it was the Julia Carpenter incarnation, and she was voiced by Casey DeFranco in the first season and Jennifer Hale in the second, respectively.

In the ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ show, there are a few episodes in which the Mary Jane Watson version of Spider-Woman appears, also referred to as Spider-MJ. This version of the character was voiced by Tara Strong.

In ‘Madame Web,’ we’ll get at least three different incarnations of Spider-Woman. Sydney Sweeney will portray Julia Carpenter, Isabela Merced will play Anya Corazon, and Celeste O’Connor will take the role of Mattie Franklin, respectively.

Now, the film is supposed to be ‘in another universe,’ but seeing that the whole multiversal travel between certain cinematic universes is now a thing with Marvel projects, I’m not counting out ‘Madame Web’ connecting somehow to the MCU, SSU, or the Spider-Verse – especially knowing what Madame Web’s powers are.

Finally, in the Spider-Verse trilogy, we’ve already seen numerous Spider-Woman variants. Spider-Gwen, aka Gwen Stacy’s Spider-Woman, is the most prominent of all Spider-Women that appeared so far (voiced by Hailee Steinfeld). There was also Jess Drew (based on Jessica Drew from the comics), voiced by Issa Rae, etc.

What’s the best way to watch all movies & shows featuring Spider-Woman?

Seeing that most of these films and shows are separated from each other, the best way to watch all of them is by simply following their release order.

The stories aren’t connected to each other directly, so there’s really no point in trying to watch them in some chronological order. So if you watch them in release order, at least you’ll get to see how the character progressed over the years and compare different incarnations of Spider-Woman.

That being said, the Spider-Verse trilogy is connected, although the third movie hasn’t been released yet. Therefore, you can still watch this entire list in release order, but when ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’ comes out, simply watch the trilogy separately from the other movies and shows on this list.

We’ll also get to see in February 2024 if ‘Madame Web’ will tie into any of the existing universes, being the MCU, SSU, or Spider-Verse, so the best watch order may change just a bit according to those potential connections.

Movies (& shows) featuring Spider-Woman in chronological order

As you probably figured out by now, ordering all of these shows and movies chronologically doesn’t make that much sense, as they are all separated from each other as stand-alone projects – except for the Spider-Verse trilogy.

Therefore, I suggest you should watch all the shows and films in their release order, but watch the Spider-Verse trilogy separately, and chronologically. The two lists would look like this:

Spider-Verse trilogy:

  1. ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ (2018)
  2. ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider’ (2023)
  3. ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’ (TBD)

Other Spider-Woman movies and TV shows:

  1. ‘Spider-Woman’ (1979-1980)
  2. ‘Iron Man’ (1994-1996)
  3. ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ (2012-2017)
  4. ‘Madame Web'(TBR Feb 14, 2024)

Where to watch the above-mentioned movies & shows?

Things can get a bit complicated when it comes to Sony’s Spider-Man movies and their streaming rights. However, you can still watch all of these movies and TV shows on your favorite platforms.

‘Spider-Woman’ (1979-1980), ‘Iron Man’ (1994-1996), ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ (2012-2017), and ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ (2018) can all be found on Disney+. However, 2023’s ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ can only be found on Netflix right now.

You see, there’s a deal between Sony and Disney in place right now for all Sony’s Spidey-related projects between 2022 and 2026. However, Sony already had a deal with Netflix, so now there’s a conundrum. Netflix has the right to stream upcoming movies for 18 months before they have a chance to arrive on Disney+.

Some Sony films – like Tobey Maguire’s ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy, the two Andrew Garfield-led ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ films, and even Tom Hardy’s ‘Venom’ – are already available on Disney+.

However, ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ just started streaming on Netflix on October 31, 2023. Seeing that Netflix has the right to stream the film exclusively for 18 months, you’ll be able to find it there probably until May 2025, after which it’ll likely arrive on Disney+.

The same goes for the two upcoming films featuring Spider-Woman – ‘Madame Web’ and ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.’ After their theatrical run, the films will arrive on Netflix for 18 months first, and then after that, they’ll transfer to Disney+. This means you can expect those two films of Disney+ somewhere in late 2026 or early 2027.

Will there be more movies & shows featuring Spider-Woman?

Yes, there will be more movies and shows featuring Spider-Woman! In fact, we’ve included two of those upcoming films on this very list.

‘Madame Web’ is arriving in February 2024, while ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’ doesn’t have an exact release date anymore but will likely also come out in 2024. It was supposed to arrive in March, but the industry-wide strikes pushed the date, which is yet to be determined by Sony.

After those two films, Sony has actually announced another Spider-Woman animated movie that’s officially in the works alongside a live-action Miles Morales film. When speaking to Variety, Spider-Man producers Amy Pascal and Avi Arad revealed it’s in the works:

You’ll see all of it. It’s all happening sooner than you expect.

10 Gwen Stacy Variants We’d Like to See in ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’

I’m almost certain that, even after that, there will be more, especially considering the growing popularity of Spider-Woman as a character, especially the Gwen Stacy, Jess Drew, and Julia Carpenter incarnations.

As for which version of Spider-Woman will be featured in the announced animated movie, nothing has been confirmed, but I’m almost sure that it’ll be Hailee Steinfeld’s Spider-Gwen. After all, in the same interview with Variety, Hailee expressed that doing voice work for Gwen Stacy was her dream job:

This is like my dream job, sign me up over and over again. I got to be comfortable! And it’s a dream to be in a space that feels so comfortable but also creative and free and just exciting to be a part of.

It’s exciting, but let’s focus on what we know is coming for sure – ‘Madame Web’ is hitting theaters on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2024.
