One of the most notable animated superhero projects in recent years is definitely the ‘Spider-Verse’ franchise. The first movie ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ was a massive success, with the second movie’ Across the Spider-Verse’ breaking all kinds of records.

The film, the first from Sony Pictures Animation to hit theaters globally since ‘The Angry Birds Movie 2’ in 2019, received positive reviews and set various box office records. It outperformed its predecessor, grossing a whopping $690.5 million worldwide and becoming the third-highest-grossing film in the U.S. for 2023. Notably, it secured the title of Sony Pictures Animation’s highest-grossing film and earned Best Animated Film at the National Board of Review. The American Film Institute also recognized it as one of the top 10 films of 2023.

Now we know that the third installment in the Spider-Verse franchise is expected and in development, but fans have long been speculating and even demanding a live-action project featuring Miles Morales. In her recent talk with Variety, Amy Pascal revealed what the fans can expect. The journalist asked how far along is the development of the promised live-action Miles Morales movie, and Amy was vague.

Someday. Not until we make two more movies. Someday.

Due to the vague statement, fans assumed that Pascal was talking about two more animated Miles Morales movies, luckily, Christopher Miller took to social media to explain that the two movies that Pascal was referring to were actually ‘Spider-Man 4’ and ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.’

This definitely sounds closer to becoming reality than two more animated movies however. Recently, Miller revealed that the third installment is in production.

“We’re in production… we’re really excited about where the story is going, I think it’s a very satisfying conclusion to the trilogy, and it’s as emotional as the other ones… we’re knee-deep in it.”

In December 2021, Lord and Miller confirmed a third film in the ‘Spider-Verse’ series, initially named ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part Two)’ and slated for a 2023 release. By April 2022, it got a new title, ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.’ Amid concerns about production delays, Lord and Miller emphasized taking the necessary time for quality. In July 2023, the film was removed from the schedule due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, with ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’ taking its release date. Following the strike’s end in November 2023, voice recording for the film resumed, and now Lord and Miller confirmed that they are “knee-deep” in the production.

Besides the ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse,’ ‘Spider-Women’ spinoff is also in development that focuses on three generations of female Spider-People. However, Lord and Miller aren’t directly related to the spinoff, as Bek Smith is writing it, and Lauren Montgomery is directing it.
