Andy Serkis Teases ‘The Batman 2’ Story: ‘I’m as Hungry for It as You Are!’
A sequel to ‘The Batman’ was officially announced at CinemaCon in April 2022, with Robert Pattinson and director Matt Reeves returning. By August, Mattson Tomlin had joined as co-writer, and the film was initially titled ‘The Batman – Part II’ in early 2023.
However, by late 2024, the title was dropped as Reeves continued working on the script. Key cast members, including Jeffrey Wright as Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Colin Farrell as Penguin, are set to reprise their roles.
So far, the movie has been delayed 2 times in total and is currently set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027. Matt Reeves gave us an update on the script a few months ago, saying it’s still not finished but filming is expected to start in late 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in England.
Now Andy Serkis, who is set to reprise his role revealed that director Matt Reeves has shared the story of the upcoming movie with him. Serkis expressed his excitement, saying that he is just as eager for the sequel as the fans are. This update reassures fans that the project is moving forward, even though the film is still in early development.
I know there’s a huge appetite for it, and boy I am as hungry as you are. I just have to give a big shout-out to Matt Reeves, he is one of the most genius filmmakers, and not only from the ‘Planet of the Apes,’ but, you know, his Batman was such a joy to be part of.
I feel so blessed and lucky to work with him and Rob Pattinson…He is just one other best. I actually talked to him recently, if you’ve been watching The Penguin, Farrell was amazing, but I talked to Matt because I was doing a press thing with him about The Penguin and I interviewed him […] but he basically told me the story of Batman 2 and I’m so excited.
Several months ago, speculations started regarding the possible villain for the upcoming flick. The clear contenders for the villain role are Mr. Freeze, due to the movie’s confirmed Winter setting, and Court of Owls, due to some hints that Reeves himself shared in various interviews.
