Fanboys rejoice. Let the nerdgasm’s begin. In an interview with ComicBook.com, Starfire actor, Anna Diop mentioned that she would, in fact, be wearing a comic-accurate version of the Starfire costume. Many people, myself included speculated that in an effort to “mainstream” the look of the character, Warner Bros. would look to create a modern take on the costume.
“As soon as I put it on, everyone was flipping out,” Diop said. “It’s awesome because it’s something that so many people have seen for so long and it means so much to people and this is the first time we’re bringing it to life, …”
Great news
This news comes as a welcomed surprise. The speculation, no matter how negative it may have appeared, was not without warrant. One of the chief complaints about the show (aside from the Fuck Batman words) was that the costumes were not comic accurate. Because Starfire has one of the more “out there” looks, there was reason for concern.
She went in to say, “our story takes its time. It takes its time, it’s an origin story, so it takes its time in the characters coming to this place where you see them and the way that everyone’s always known. I hope that the audience can be patient with us and have fun with us. It’s a ride, and it’s a fun one.”
With Titans set to debut Friday, October 12th, there remain a plethora of questions to be answered. Namely, how do the characters come together, what becomes the basis of their bond, and will we see the origin of each character unfold or only a select few?
I suppose like all good things, we will have to wait for the answers. Until then, we all can breathe a little easier knowing that Starfire will be Starfire…or at least she will from a costume point of view.
Titans stars Anna Diop as Starfire, Brenton Thwaites as Robin, Ryan Potter as Beast Boy, and Teagan Croft as Raven.
