‘Captain America: Brave New World’ is the highly anticipated fourth installment in the MCU’s ‘Captain America’ franchise. Although Steve Rogers left the MCU on a high note, the story continues, with Sam Wilson taking up the shield—a decision that has sparked intense debate among fans.
Many were outraged and confused by the former Falcon stepping into the role, questioning how Wilson could be Captain America without superpowers or enhanced physiology.
Sam Wilson won’t need the Super Soldier Serum. Based on everything we’ve seen in the promos and statements from the cast and crew, Wilson will rely on advanced technology that enhances his abilities far beyond those of a regular human. Equipped with powerful vibranium-based tech, he’ll be more than capable of taking on any threat that comes his way.
But it’s about more than just the tech. Anthony Mackie recently explained that the Super Soldier Serum will never be Sam Wilson’s thing—not because of the technology at his disposal, but because of the message he represents.
In an interview, Anthony Mackie was asked whether Sam Wilson would ever receive the Super Soldier Serum in ‘Captain America: Brave New World.’ Mackie made it clear that Sam will remain serum-free, emphasizing that his character represents an “everyman’s Captain America.”
He explained that Sam being an ordinary person, rather than a super-powered soldier, makes him more relatable. His journey is about stepping up as a leader despite not having enhanced abilities, which is a key part of his appeal and the message behind his version of Captain America.
I don’t think he will. I think if you look at Sam, Sam is every man’s Captain America. The idea of him just being a regular guy that’s been thrust into this position of leadership is something that we all can identify with, something that we all can relate to.
Anthony Mackie is saying that if Sam Wilson were to receive the Super Soldier Serum, it would change what makes his Captain America special. Sam’s appeal comes from the fact that he’s just an ordinary man who rises to the occasion through sheer determination, skill, and leadership—not because of superhuman abilities.
So I think it’s important for him not to get the serum because then that takes him out of the realm of the possibility of any of us being Captain America.
