Anthony Mackie Sets the Record Straight on ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Reshoot Rumors: “every Marvel movie I’ve done has done reshoots”
‘Captain America: Brave New World’ is one of the most anticipated MCU films, marking Sam Wilson’s first solo adventure as Captain America, where he faces Harrison Ford’s Thaddeus Ross as Red Hulk.
The movie has had its struggles, including reshoots, plot leaks, and mixed reactions from test screenings. Some reports say test audiences felt the political message was boring, the action was weak, and the romance lacked chemistry.
To fix these issues, reshoots were done over the summer, reportedly adding $100M to the budget, with some sources mentioning hints of the ‘World War Hulk’ storyline.
In his latest interview with Empire, Anthony Mackie, the star of the movie, addressed the reshoots. He wanted to make it clear that the movie wasn’t completely changed or “retooled.” Mackie explained that reshoots are a normal part of the filmmaking process at Marvel. After the main story is finished, they sometimes go back to add or improve a few scenes, but the main story stays the same.
It wasn’t retooled at all, every Marvel movie I’ve done has done reshoots. It’s not retooling or remaking. You basically get the movie and the story you want, you edit it together, then go back and shoot a few more scenes.

A test screening for the movie took place a couple of months ago, and it’s rumored that they added Amadeus Cho, played by Logan Kim. Around this time, the full plot supposedly leaked online, leading to more negative reactions.
Two different versions of the movie were shown at the screening, and details from one version got leaked. A person who attended said they weren’t impressed, and others described the movie as “inessential” and “flat.”
The audience was split into two groups with different-colored bracelets for separate theaters. These reports aren’t confirmed yet, but we’ll know for sure when the movie releases on February 14, 2025.
