Anthony Mackie Wants Captain America to Clash with the Thunderbolts: ‘All of my friends are in there’

Captain America: Brave New World is the latest installment in the MCU, featuring Anthony Mackie in his first standalone film as Captain America. In this movie, he faces The Leader and, ultimately, Red Hulk, as he seeks to prove himself as more than just a worthy successor to Steve Rogers.

Without giving too much away, the film also lays the groundwork for the future of the MCU, particularly in setting up the new Avengers team and the introduction of Adamantium. During a press interview, it was confirmed that this will eventually tie into the Weapon X program and Wolverine.

2024 was a bit thin when it comes to superhero releases, but in 2025 we can expect several of the teams to join the lineup, Marvel’s first family -The Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts.

During the interview, Mackie was asked which team he would love to collaborate with the most. Mackie expressed his excitement about the possibility of his Captain America crossing paths with the Thunderbolts. He pointed out that many of his friends are part of the team, and he imagines their interactions would be chaotic but entertaining. Referring to it as a “train wreck of epic proportions,”

Mackie seems to believe that the mix of characters would lead to wild, unpredictable dynamics—something he would love to see happen on screen.

All of my friends are in there. Just the idea of me and all those dudes together would be a train wreck of epic proportions, so I would love for that to happen.

On-screen, Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier) have a love-hate friendship in the MCU, often bickering but ultimately trusting each other. Off-screen, they have a playful, brother-like bond, constantly joking, teasing, and making fun of each other in interviews.

This is why Mackie’s choice to cross paths with Thunderbolts was the expected answer since Stan’s and Mackie’s friendship is well known.

Thunderbolts* is scheduled to be released in the United States on May 2, 2025, as the final film of Phase Five of the MCU.
