‘Avengers 5’: Plot, Cast, Release Date & Everything We Know So Far

Out of all the movies on Marvel Studios’ release schedule, the ‘Avengers’ franchise is undoubtedly the most exciting one. We know that two new ‘Avengers’ movies are in development, and when it comes to the fifth installment in the franchise, we’ve been through a lot in the last few months.
Majors’ was fired back in December after being found guilty of third-degree assault against his former girlfriend, and since then, the direction of the movie is confusing, to say the least. The movie internally changed its name from ‘Kang Dynasty’ to ‘Avenger 5,’ and we can’t even be sure that Kang is the main villain still. This is why, we decided to compile this guide, to quickly and efficiently summarize everything we know about the movie so far.
The plot is in large part unknown
‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ was meant to introduce Kang the Conqueror (and his variants, the Council of Kang) to the MCU and present him as the big villain of the next several phases akin to Thanos.
Now soon after the release of Quantumania, Majors was fired by the studio, and quite frankly we can’t even confirm nor deny whether Kang the Conqueror is still the main villain of the movie. The only semi-official thing we have is Production Listing, with the following synopsis:
Kang the Conqueror has been a foe of the Avengers for decades! Now, witness his ultimate triumph, as he brings all of his vast cross-time spanning legions to bear to conquer the Earth once and for all! Can Earth’s Mightiest Heroes hold back the colossal forces arrayed against them or will they face defeat and subjugation beneath the boot of the Conqueror?!
Considering that Michael Waldron is still credited as being the writer of the film, we can assume that this quick summary reflects the plot of the movie correctly and that not much has changed, Kang will most likely be recast.
However, such production listings often use outdated information, or some type of generic blurb from the comics, like for example, this production listing featuring a ‘Teen Titans’ movie.
Considering that both ‘Avengers 5’ and ‘Secret Wars’ will be ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’ of the next several phases, we can assume that a large roster of characters will appear.
The movie also doesn’t have a director as of yet, but the latest reports claim that Shawn Levy is being courted by the studio to helm the movie, he has been allegedly handed the script for the movie. Sources close to the project reveal that over 60 MCU characters might reprise their roles, including stars like Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, and Benedict Cumberbatch, as well as Tom Hiddleston, Simu Liu, and Karen Gillan. Unlike the first four films, which focused on a core group led by Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Hemsworth, and Ruffalo, this film will feature many characters on equal footing, making it an ensemble piece rather than being led by a few key characters.
The cast hasn’t been officially revealed
Quite frankly, every single person currently active in the MCU can possibly appear in the film, however, IMDb has only several actors listed:
- Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye – rumored, as indicated)
- Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson)
- Tenoch Huerta (Namor)
This is all we can provide you with currently.
The movie is scheduled to be released in 2026
Marvel Studios announced ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2022, with Destin Daniel Cretton set to direct. Jeff Loveness, the writer of “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” was confirmed as the screenplay writer in September.
However, Cretton exited the project in November 2023, and Michael Waldron replaced Loveness as the writer. Jonathan Majors, initially attached to reprise his role as Kang the Conqueror, was fired in December 2023. Consequently, the film was internally referred to as “Avengers 5.” Filming was scheduled to take place in the United Kingdom but faced delays due to Majors’s firing. “Avengers 5” is slated for release on May 1, 2026.
