Beau DeMayo Accuses Marvel of Pattern of Troubling Behavior and Marvel Fires Back With Claims of “Egregious” Findings

‘X-Men ’97’ turned out to be a surprise hit for Marvel Studios, and it’s mostly due to the work put in by Beau DeMayo who served as the creator of the show. Behind closed doors, however, it seems that a true drama was playing out.

Just weeks before the first season’s premiere Beau DeMayo was fired, and no explanation has been given by the writer or by the company on which grounds he was terminated.

Some insider reports stated that DeMayo was difficult to work with, while some industry insiders claimed that it was due to DeMayo’s non-NSFW only-fans channel. But it seems that truth is finally coming out and it’s far more serious than we can assume.

For the most part, DeMayo did not comment on his former employer despite him interacting with fans on social media regularly, especially while the first season of ‘X-Men ’97’ was ongoing. The writer revealed that he wrote the majority of season 2, but a couple of weeks ago news broke that his scripts have been largely revised.

Then, a few days ago DeMayo stated that he was not invited to the Emmy Awards Ceremony despite ‘X-Men ’97’ being nominated. After Disney ended up in the news due to an extremely ghoulish Wrongful Death lawsuit, DeMayo threw shade at his former employer citing that he would expect something like that from a company such as Disney.

You could kind of hint that DeMayo was ready to spill the beans on everything. The writer recently shared an image on his social media depicting Cyborg re-imagined as a gay man in celebration of Pride Month.

DeMayo claims that just as he shared the photo he was notified that his credits from season 2 are being removed. Many fans jumped to the conclusion that the company discriminated against DeMayo based on his sexual orientation as DeMayo is very openly gay.

That would be kind of ironic considering how Disney is in recent times accused of “shilling” LGBTQ propaganda and other similar “woke” themes. We know how much both Disney and Marvel care about the public image, so it’s no wonder that DeMayo finally got them to spill the beans on the exact reason for his firing, but it seems that it does not look good for DeMayo.

Following the writer’s post on social media, The Hollywood Reporter reports that a Marvel spokesperson issued them a statement:

Mr. DeMayo was terminated in March 2024 following an internal investigation. Given the egregious nature of the findings, we severed ties with him immediately, and he has no further affiliation with Marvel.

Sources indicate that after his departure, an agreement was made regarding tweeting about the show, which DeMayo had been doing despite previous breaches. His credit for season two was subsequently removed. Although specific details about the termination and internal reviews have not been disclosed, the issue reportedly involved sexual misconduct.

DeMayo did not comment further on these issues, but he did leave a cryptic comment on his social media:

As you can see, this is extremely messy and DeMayo is clearly not giving us a full story, leading his fans to believe that he was fired over being gay, while the full story is likely much more sinister.
