Beau DeMayo’s Lawyer Says Disney Is Starting Gaslighting Campaign Amidst Serious Accusations, Hints at Legal Action

Beau DeMayo is in the last few days at the center of media attention and it’s only partially due to his involvement with the highly-rated, ‘X-Men ’97’ show. DeMayo was fired from his position as the showrunner and head writer earlier this year just weeks before the first season of the show was supposed to premiere.

Neither the writer nor the company decided to comment on the reasons behind the dismissal, but DeMayo’s recent accusations toward the company opened the floodgates.

Earlier this week, DeMayo accused Disney of removing his season 2 writing credits due to sharing a sexually suggestive drawing of Cyborg on his social media. The company responded that he was removed from all projects due to the egregious results of an internal investigation. Industry insiders revealed that DeMayo allegedly sent sexual photos to young staffers, groped assistants, and emotionally and physically abused staff members.

Bryan Freedman, a prominent attorney known for handling major wrongful termination cases in Hollywood, is now representing Beau DeMayo and the lawyer has since issued a statement to Deadline in which he claims that Disney is starting a gaslighting campaign against his client and the public:

Having much experience with Disney, the playbook is always the same. Family friendly on the outside, but secretly attempting to plant illegal unconscionable items in contracts that silence the truth and stop the employee/customer from asserting basic constitutional rights. […] As we will explain through detailed examples which we will roll out in detail one by one, Disney’s model is very clear and a repetitive illegal pattern,” Freedman continued.

“Once it gets challenged or exposed, the gaslighting and redirection of the blame toward anyone willing to tell the truth starts through an international well oiled publicity machine. […] Beau DeMayo wants nothing from Marvel/Disney except the truth. He will bravely tell the truth. So will I. Stand by.

At no point in the statement did DeMayo’s lawyer even attempt to debunk the rumors and results of the internal investigation. This suggests that legal action might be imminent.
