Benedict Cumberbatch Hints at ‘Doctor Strange 3’ & Teases Strange’s Role in Multiverse Saga: “He’s quite central to where things might go”

In the last couple of months, the development of ‘Doctor Strange 3’ was basically confirmed. We have no information regarding the movie but we can assume safely that Benedict Cumberbatch and Benedict Wong will reprise their respective roles.

In recent months, there’s been plenty of talk regarding the potential plot of the movie. The rumor mill is pretty confident that Clea will have a bigger story in the upcoming sequel, and the Black Priests will be introduced in the movie.

Strange is being hailed as one of the most important figures in the rest of the Multiversal Saga, as he is allegedly why the incursions started happening in the first place.

As I’ve mentioned before, the studio has been tight-lipped regarding the upcoming installment, but Cumberbatch decided to reveal some information regarding the movie’s development to Variety.

Benedict Cumberbatch revealed that Doctor Strange will not appear in the 2026 Marvel movie ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ because the character doesn’t fit into that part of the story. He also hinted that Doctor Strange will have a significant role in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ set to release in 2027.

The shift in plans followed the firing of Jonathan Majors, originally slated as the franchise’s main antagonist, after his 2024 assault conviction. Cumberbatch joked about whether sharing this information was a spoiler.

He also teased his third solo film and praised Marvel’s collaborative approach, noting they’ve asked for his input on writers, directors, and comic storylines to explore. Cumberbatch emphasized the character’s depth, describing Strange as complex, troubled, and fascinating to portray, with plenty of potential for growth.
