A Little History

Starting as merely a partnership between Oracle (Babara Gordon) and Black Canary (Dinah Laurel Lance), the Birds of Prey have watched their popularity rise over the years.

Initially, they operated out of the Gotham Clocktower taking on missions close to home. More recently, the team has become that of a covert operation focused team, taking on missions all over the globe. The combined efforts of Oracle’s computer abilities, Black Canary’s martial arts, and Huntress’s hand-to-hand combat make this team one of the most effective teams in DC Comics. Since their inception, the team has grown and shrunk as each mission calls for it. Past members include the likes of Big Barda, Poison Ivy, Katana, Lady Blackhawk, and Dove. At the conclusion of their stay in the Gotham Clocktower, the team had moved their “home base” to Metropolis and then to Platinum Falls.

In their first appearance, the audience learns that Black Canary had been kidnapped and it was up to Oracle to find her. To do this, she enlisted the help of the Huntress. In short, the two successfully found and freed Black Canary and the Birds of Prey were born.

Even though the team has disbanded multiple times, they always find a way and reason to reform. More often than not, the reformation is the work of Oracle, Black Canary, and Huntress.
