After several years of development hell, it seems that MCU’s upcoming ‘Blade’ reboot won’t see the light of day. The highly awaited reboot has been facing major problems even before the recent SAG-AFTRA strikes.
This movie, which centers on the famous vampire hunter Eric Brooks, was intended to restart the popular ‘Blade’ trilogy that helped shape the current MCU.
Since Mahershala Ali was cast as Blade in 2018, the project has struggled with script issues and has seen several changes in writers and directors. Some reports suggest that Mahershala Ali may be part of the problem, while others say the story and scripting are the main issues.
Recently, it was announced that ‘Blade’ has been removed from Disney’s release schedule, and the film, which was set to come out on November 7, 2025, will now be delayed indefinitely. This date has now been taken by ‘Predator: Badlands.’ Given the ongoing rumors, it seems unlikely that ‘Blade’ will be released anytime soon.
Now that ‘Blade’ won’t be moving forward, it’s safe to start theorizing on what’s next for this supernatural side of the MCU. It’s likely that some parts of the planned movie will be repurposed into the ‘Midnight Sons’ project.
The project is currently not officially confirmed by Marvel Studios, but in the last few months, we’ve got several updates on the project including the possible writer. According to reports ‘Logan’ writer Michael Green has been hired to pen the script.
It’s quite likely that the MCU is sidelining Blade to introduce yet another team of superheroes, this doesn’t mean that Ali won’t be Blade, it would just mean that he is not getting a solo movie. Blade is canonically a member of Midnight Sons, so it would make sense to feature him in a prominent role.
After all, it’s been rumored that the next saga of the MCU will be a supernatural saga, and there’s no better team than Midnight Sons to fight supernatural threats.
The movie’s delay could also be connected to Snipes’ recent return to the Blade role. Following the release of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ one popular idea was to bring back Wesley Snipes, who originally played Blade in three movies about 20 years ago.
Fans are excited about his potential return with Ryan Reynolds, who stars in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ has also expressed his excitement about working with Snipes and supports the idea of a new ‘Blade’ film featuring him.
It’s possible that the studio has seen overwhelmingly positive reactions to Snipes’ Blade and now might want to feature him in the movies as the older mentor-type figure but still keep him as MCU’s main Blade, at least for the time being.
