Rob Liefeld Reveals That Lady Deadpool and Blake Lively Were Connected Years Before ‘Deadpool’ Franchise Even Existed

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ was released more than a week ago, and the movie is turning out to be a major box office and critical success, being hailed as the return of the true MCU. The movie is successful in large part due to the inclusion of legacy Marvel characters, and numerous Deadpool variants.

One of those variants is Lady Deadpool. It’s long been rumored that Lady Deadpool is played Taylor Swift, rumors that both Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds were unwilling to completely debunk. As it turns out the actress was never even considered for the role, and in the movie’s credits it’s been revealed that the character was played by Reynold’s better half, a world-famous actress in her own right, Blake Lively.

If you think that Blake Lively was chosen to play the role simply due to her connection to the main actor, you would be entirely wrong as Rob Liefeld, creator of Deadpool and by extension Lady Deadpool confirmed that he based the comic version of the character on Blake Lively. As it turns out around the time that the character was created Liefeld and his wife were huge ‘Gossip Girl’ fans and he detailed the character’s creation in an Instagram post:

Lively mentioned in her separate social media post that at the time, Liefeld was unaware she was collaborating with Reynolds on the 2011 superhero film, and ‘Deadpool’ had not yet been approved.

12 years later I read Rob’s post [about inspiring Lady Deadpool]. A year after that, @deadpoolmovie 3 was filmed. The universe has such a magical sense of humor sometimes.

Blake Lively is not the only member of the Reynolds family who appeared in the movie, according to the credits all children appeared in the movie, some in prominent roles. Inez, the couple’s 7-year-old daughter played the role of Kidpool, and Reynolds himself joked on social media that she was the most difficult variant to work with. The couple’s youngest child so far 1-year-old Olin portrayed Babypool in the movie.

Reynolds and Lively’s 4-year-old daughter, Betty, is credited in the film though she doesn’t appear on screen. According to a TikTok shared on July 27, Betty is listed in the credits as “Hugh Jackman Wrangler.” The specifics of her role are unclear, but it is notable given her connection to actor Hugh Jackman.

9-year-old James took on the role of a “screaming mutant” as per IMDb credits but that’s as specific as it goes with the description of the role.
