British MCU Fans Disheartened as One Rumored Project Is Seemingly No Longer in Development

Marvel Studios has found itself in a bit of a problem in the last few years. Ever since Infinity Saga was concluded, it’s been lining up “mixed” reviews at best, and it had several notable box office bombs.
Now as a consequence, several planned projects are no longer in development as Bob Iger announced that the studio will be reducing its creative output in the next several years.
British fans have been asking for, well, forever, for some British-oriented content, as some of the most notable characters in the comics hail from across the pond. We did get Secret Invasion that took place in Europe last summer, but, we don’t talk about ‘Secret Invasion’ as the show was (in my opinion) barely watchable.
There have been rumors that the studio was working on the MI13/Excalibur show, but those eventually led nowhere.
MI13, or Military Intelligence, Section 13, is the UK’s agency tasked with addressing paranormal incidents, operating within the country’s intelligence apparatus alongside MI5, MI6, GCHQ, and DI. Directed by the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC), MI13 aims to safeguard Britain from mystical, extraterrestrial, and superhuman dangers.
Now notable industry insider, Alex Perez revealed in his recent Discord Q&A that the show was indeed in development according to his source, but the way he worded it seems like this is no longer the case:
Futers11: When can I get a British MCU show or movie?
Alex: They were working on an MI13/Excalibur project.
What Perez said lines up with something we reported on several months ago. That the rumored MI13 project was replaced by Captain Britain standalone show. Captain Britain in the MCU is nothing new, as the character was rumored to join the MCU as early as 2018. For those unfamiliar, Captain Britain, also known as Brian Braddock, is not a British “version of Captain America“. He was introduced in 1976 and has magical powers given by Merlyn, making him a mix of superhero and mystical guardian. His stories often involve magical realms, which could add an interesting dimension to the MCU.
Recently, Henry Cavill stated that he would love to play Captain Britain in the MCU, which fans interpreted as him basically confirming that if such a project does get to be developed, Cavill is a sure cast.
Fans did not take to this “news” lightly:
