Josh Brolin Disappointed With His Absence in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’: “I really liked doing that role”

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ released over a week ago, now it’s notably shattering box-office records and it set the stage for plenty of upcoming MCU projects. Notably, the inclusion of mutants in the MCU.

The marketing campaign for the movie teased plenty of cameos and variants, and it delivered on most of them. Fans were elated to see Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, Evans’ Human Torch, Snipes’ Blade, and Tatum’s Gambit. However, some notable absences were noted – primarily Brolin’s Cable.

If you’ve been following Brolin’s interviews, you were aware that the actor debunked his rumored appearance in the movie multiple times in the last several months. He did however state that he was disappointed not to be in the movie as he really liked that role and wanted to be a part of it. Brolin commented on his absence a few months prior to the release:

Am I? Yeeeesssss! I so wanted to be in that movie.[Marvel] is a more complex labyrinth than ‘Outer Range’ will ever be, my friend, and I will never know where that went or what that is or what I’m involved with or what I’m not involved with —the MCU being involved now. Cable was a lot of fun. I really liked doing that role. That was a lot of fun.

Brolin later clarified that just because he’s not in the project, he has no ill will toward anybody who participated in the movie and is quite excited about the release.

Hugh [Jackman], I’m absolutely in love with, I know Ryan [Reynolds] now, and I’ve met Hugh a couple of times, and I think when he did ‘Logan’—forget it! I mean, Scott Frank, who wrote it, is a good friend of mine and I just think the coming together of [these characters] is just fantastic. And Hugh, I don’t know how old Hugh is now—is he 56, 57? I mean, seriously, the dude doesn’t age. So, yeah. I’m a big fan of his.

The most likely explanation for Brolin’s absence from the movie is the fact that he is already associated with the role of Thanos in the MCU and according to the actor himself, he’s heard rumors that the character will return:

You know, I hear kind of like through the grapevine, that they’re gonna bring him back, and there’s the What If…? series and that’s a different kind of Thanos and all that. But I don’t know in the Marvel world whether they’re going to bring him back, but I didn’t know that he was the most killed-off Marvel villain … You learn something new every day.

But then again both Evans and RDJ were associated with major MCU roles and they managed to return in different roles, so, who knows? What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
