Cameron Diaz recently opened up about how much Hollywood has changed since she last worked in the industry, crediting the #MeToo movement for reshaping the way film sets operate. During her appearance on Netflix’s “SkipIntro” podcast, she reflected on her return to acting after an 11-year break and shared how different things feel compared to her early career.

Diaz, who stars in Netflix’s “Back in Action,” said she was shocked by the new standards in place to ensure safety on set. She noted that in the past, inappropriate behavior was something women often had to tolerate, sometimes brushing it off just to get through the day.

The industry is so different,” Diaz said. “I definitely have to say that #MeToo changed everything. It’s palpable. You walk onto the set and it is different.

Recalling her early years in Hollywood, Diaz explained that there were always situations that made her uncomfortable. “It wasn’t just the higher-ups,” she said. “There was always just that one guy on set that you dreaded having to deal with. There were layers of inappropriateness that you just had to put up with.

One of the biggest changes she noticed was the introduction of workplace protections she had never seen before. “I have never in my entire career had HR come in prior to a movie and talk about what is appropriate and what is inappropriate behavior,” she said. “And there’s a hotline, which Netflix has, to call anonymously to report any issues. Wow, that is amazing.”

Diaz, who initially left acting to focus on her personal life, acknowledged that her generation of women in Hollywood had to learn to navigate an environment where they were constantly on edge. She compared it to walking a tightrope, always trying to maintain balance while knowing that one misstep could lead to trouble.

Now, with new policies in place, she feels a level of security she never had before. “The level of safety you feel as a woman now on set is something I never experienced before this film,” she said.

While Diaz hasn’t made any firm decisions about her long-term future in acting, she’s keeping her options open. Speaking to Empire magazine, she said, “I reserve the right to say no to doing a movie ever again, and I reserve the right to say yes.”
