Can We Expect the Upcoming DC Studios Movie – ‘Dynamic Duo’ To Be a Part of DCU?

DC Studios has plenty of projects in the works. James Gunn is working on creating a new cinematic universe from the ground up, known as the DCU, which officially begins with the release of ‘Creature Commandos’, but its real introduction will come with ‘Superman’ in 2025.

Meanwhile, Matt Reeves is expanding his Batman Epic Crime Saga. Reeves’ universe is off to a strong start, especially with the release of ‘The Penguin,’ which has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from both critics and audiences.

Recently, an animated movie focusing on two notable Robins has been announced. It’s going to beat joint collaboration between James Gunn and Matt Reeves.

The film titled ‘Dynamic Duo’ and written by Matthew Aldrich, is being produced by a new animation studio called Swaybox. Mintz will direct the movie, which centers on the early days of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, who are both known as the Robins. While the movie will be produced by Reeves and Gunn, we’re left wondering whether it will be a part of their respective cinematic universes.

The initial reports claimed that ‘Dynamic Duo’ is not connected to Matt Reeves’ ‘Batman Epic Crime Saga’ but no such statement has been made regarding the movie’s connection to the DCU. At least not directly.

We know that DCU has a live-action film starring Bruce Wayne/Batman and Damian Wayne/Robin, directed by Andy Muschietti in the works, titled ‘The Brave and the Bold.’ There’s also the rumored ‘Teen Titans’ live-action movie written by Ana Nogueira that may include at least one of the Robins.

It’s clear that if ‘Dynamic Duo’ becomes canon to the DCU, it will have to be a prequel by all means. It’s also possible to include “origin stories” of two Robins in the DCU since Damian Wayne will likely end up being the primary Robin of DCU continuity.

It’s possible that the movie might be connected to the DCU, but it wasn’t confirmed and it seems highly unlikely since it would further confuse the fanbase. It seems like DCU is currently a bit disjointed by introducing for example three Robins and there’s not a project in sight that focuses on Wonder Woman or Aquaman for example.

Yes ‘Paradise Lost’ is presumably still in development but we have no news to report on, and the project won’t focus on Wonder Woman it’s set centuries before her birth.

In any case, ‘Dynamic Duo’ likely won’t be canon to the DCU, it’s likely going to be part of Elseworlds stories.
