Marvel’s latest film, ‘Captain America: Brave New World,’ is already making waves in China before its official release. The movie, set to debut on February 14, had its ticket pre-sales open on Sunday, and the results have been impressive according to notable box office analyst Luiz Fernando.
On its first day of ticket pre-sales, ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ earned $346,000 for the period covering February 13-16. This number is higher than some other major Hollywood movies’ pre-sales in China, including:
- ‘Dune: Part Two’ – $87,000
- ‘Apes’ – $91,000
- ‘Aquaman 2’ – $97,000
- ‘The Flash’ – $125,000
- ‘Godzilla x Kong’ – $142,000
- ‘The Batman’ – $175,000
- ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ – $221,000
- ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ – $250,000
One key thing to remember is that only 23,000 screenings currently have pre-sales available. This is because theater owners are waiting to see how popular local films, like ‘Ne Zha 2’ and other Spring Festival releases, perform before they decide to add more screenings for ‘Captain America.’ If theaters give the movie more slots, ticket sales could rise even further.
Here’s how the ticket sales are distributed over the first few days:
- February 13 (Thursday Previews): $41,000
- February 14 (Friday Opening Day): $235,000
- February 15 (Saturday): $57,000
- February 16 (Sunday): $13,00
With four more days of pre-sales still to go, these numbers could increase as more people buy tickets. ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ is already off to a great start in China, and if it continues to gain momentum, it could be one of the biggest Hollywood hits in the country this year.
