‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Faces Massive Box Office Crash—$250M Loss Expected According to Analyst

Captain America: Brave New World has (so far) made $163.7 million in the U.S. and Canada and $178.1 million overseas, totaling $341.8 million worldwide. The film needed to earn $425 million to break even due to its $180 million budget and marketing costs.

It was expected to make $80–94 million in its four-day opening weekend. It opened with $88.5 million and reached $100 million over the long weekend. However, in its second weekend, earnings dropped 68% to $28.2 million—one of the worst declines in MCU history.

Internationally, the movie earned $92.4 million in its opening weekend, with China, the UK, and Mexico among the top markets.

In its third weekend, the film made just $15 million in the U.S., dropping nearly 50% from the previous weekend.

Box office analyst OMB Reviews says things are “not looking good” for the movie. He compared it to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which had made $187.1 million in the U.S. and $420 million worldwide by its third weekend. In contrast, Brave New World is far behind and might not even reach $400 million globally.

OMB Reviews also estimates the film could lose over $250 million. He believes the real budget is closer to $300 million, despite reports saying it cost $180 million. Reshoots and Marvel’s history of big budgets suggest the movie was more expensive than officially stated.

He warned that Brave New World will likely go down as one of the biggest financial losses in Marvel history. With its current trend, it seems unlikely the film will recover its costs.

Marvel’s latest release is struggling, and unless things change, Captain America: Brave New World could be one of the studio’s biggest box office failures.
