‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Off to Strong Start in Pre-Sales Compared to Last Year’s Superhero Flicks, Could Challenge Box Office Records
‘Captain America: Brave New World’ releases in a month. The movie is scheduled for Valentine’s Day release on February 14th and will be Sam Wilson’s first solo outing as Captain America in an MCU movie.
The cast of the movie features Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, the new Captain America, who steps into the role as an underdog using his vibranium shield and wingsuit to prove himself as a leader. Danny Ramirez plays Joaquin Torres, Wilson’s friend and the new Falcon, while Carl Lumbly returns as Isaiah Bradley, a super soldier with a painful past.
The film also stars Harrison Ford as President Thaddeus Ross, who becomes Red Hulk, Giancarlo Esposito as the villainous Sidewinder, and Tim Blake Nelson as The Leader, alongside several other notable characters.
The first box office predictions for the movie indicated a strong opening weekend. The 3-day domestic opening is forecasted between $81M and $107M, with a pinpoint estimate of $96M, and the 4-day total is projected at $109M.
Now Luiz Fernando a notable box office expert gave us new insights regarding ‘Brave New World’ pre-sales.
Fernando highlighted that ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ had a strong start in pre-sales, outperforming ‘The Marvels’ and ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ by 1.4 times, and matching ‘Eternals.’ While it isn’t as strong as ‘Quantumania,’ it is close to ‘Black Widow’ and ‘Dune: Part Two’ in terms of early pre-sales.
Fernando mentioned that if ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ maintains its current pre-sales pace, it could achieve a 3-day opening higher than ‘Thor’ and ‘Captain America: The First Avenger.’ It might even challenge ‘Shang-Chi’s’ opening, which benefited from positive word-of-mouth and the Labor Day holiday, similar to the advantages ‘Captain America 4’ will have, especially on Sunday.
Fernando pointed out that the movie has an advantage over previous films because it is releasing right after ‘Deadpool and Wolverine,’ which helped bring the MCU back into the spotlight for many casual fans. This boost could lead to stronger walk-up ticket sales than its competitors experienced.
Even though the marketing campaign for the movie was plagued by various issues including reports of reshoots and skyrocketing movie’s budget, along with the Sabra/Mossad controversy, the hype is slowly building up and we’re gearing up for a spectacular MCU release.
