‘Captain America: Brave New World’s’ Original Cut Had Major Changes – Here’s What Got Switched!

Captain America: Brave New World is the latest installment in the MCU, featuring Anthony Mackie in his first standalone film as Captain America. In this movie, he faces The Leader and, ultimately, Red Hulk, as he seeks to prove himself as more than just a worthy successor to Steve Rogers.
Without giving too much away, the film also lays the groundwork for the future of the MCU, particularly in setting up the new Avengers team and the introduction of Adamantium. During a press interview, it was confirmed that this will eventually tie into the Weapon X program and Wolverine.
A few months ago, a leaked plot from a test screening surfaced online, and we already covered how the leaked plot was fairly accurate with one major difference, Amadeus Cho was removed from the final cut of the film. However, according to most recent leaks, the movie’s original cut went through some major and minor changes.
Posted on X by MCU Status you can see the full list of scenes and stories that never made it to the movie.
In the original version, Sam and Ross’s fight felt unrealistic because Sam took too many hits. The fight ended when Sam used Adamantium to drain Red Hulk’s power, making Ross’s heart stop, so he was thought to be dead.
A fake funeral was held to keep it a secret. Betty ignored Ross’s call but still showed up at the funeral. The ending originally had Sterns escaping prison on a helicopter with a brainwashed pilot.
In a post-credit scene, Betty saw fiery footsteps in her backyard, followed by Red Hulk’s glowing red eyes before he vanished.
Further, in one cut, Team Cap (Sam, Joaquin, and Isaiah) fought the Tech Suit Serpent Society to get back stolen Adamantium. Ruth stopped a brainwashed Isaiah by smashing a car with her shoulder. Sam and Joaquin fought Diamondback to learn about Camp Hope. The Leader originally had his classic comic look with a big head and hair.
Ruth later told Sam how she discovered her powers and visited Isaiah to confirm she believed he was innocent. The hallway fight was longer, with Sam, Joaquin, and Ruth fighting together. Sam never got the pills investigated, and the Leader stole a military helicopter to control the naval battle and make Ross angry.
Joaquin was originally shot down by a jet instead of a missile. Bucky wasn’t in this version since Thunderbolts* was planned for a different release date. Sterns actually planned his own capture to expose Ross’s secrets and trigger his transformation into Hulk.
Fans reacted unanimously that the cut we got was the best in the bunch:
