Chris Hemsworth is one of the biggest MCU veterans at this moment. He debuted as Thor, the God of Thunder, in the ‘Thor’ movie in 2011. Since then, he reprised the role in three ‘Thor’ sequels, four ‘Avengers’ movies, and the post-credit scene of ‘Doctor Strange.’ He also voice-acted Thor in the ‘What If…?’ animated series and Throg in the ‘Loki’ series.
His latest appearance was in last year’s ‘Thor: Love & Thunder,’ which is the fourth standalone Thor movie and the second one directed by Taika Waititi. The movie was met with mixed reviews that praised the performances of the cast, particularly Christian Bale’s performance as Gorr, the God Butcher, but visual effects, humor, and tonal inconsistency were criticized. ‘Love & Thunder’ grossed over $760 million worldwide, and the movie’s final frame announced that “Thor will return.”
Chris Hemsworth reveals conditions on which he’d return as God of Thunder!
While the ending of ‘Love & Thunder’ announced that Hemsworth would eventually return to his most famous role, we don’t know when and where that will be. The most likely option for his return at this moment would be the upcoming movie ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,’ but even though ‘Love & Thunder’ was deemed inferior to ‘Thor: Ragnarok,’ ‘Love & Thunder’ still pulled off a more decent commercial result than ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.’ So, we wouldn’t say the potential ‘Thor 5’ is totally off the papers.
Hemsworth recently shared that he’d be willing to return if there is a new and special story for his character. He shared that he doesn’t want to see exhaustion but excitement in the audience when it comes to his character. Well, despite some movies’ general quality (‘The Dark World’ and ‘Love & Thunder’), we’re sure that no MCU fan would ever be against seeing Hemsworth as the God of Thunder.
“I have no idea. I’ve said it before. It all depends on the type of story. It has to be something unique. What I don’t want is to do the same with the character until the end, until there is a feeling of exhaustion in the audience. But if there is an expectation for it, I am always willing to return. If there is a new story, it has to be something very special. I’m sure there’s something exciting to tell, so we’ll have to wait and see. You have to wait to find out.”

Some of the biggest MCU veterans, such as Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans, have left the Marvel Cinematic Universe after ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in 2019. Scarlett Johansson parted ways with the franchise following the release of 2021’s ‘Black Widow’ movie. Still, Hemsworth is one of those veterans who still have a role to play in future MCU projects, and we’ll need to wait for his next MCU project patiently. Until then, this month, Netflix will release ‘Extraction 2,’ so Hemsworth’s fans will have something to watch while they’re waiting for the God of Thunder’s return.
All MCU movies featuring Chris Hemsworth’s Thor are now streaming on Disney+.
