One of the most notable animated superhero projects in recent years is definitely the ‘Spider-Verse’ franchise. The first movie ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ was a massive success, with the second movie’ Across the Spider-Verse’ breaking all kinds of records.

The film, the first from Sony Pictures Animation to hit theaters globally since ‘The Angry Birds Movie 2’ in 2019, received positive reviews and set various box office records. It outperformed its predecessor, grossing a whopping $690.5 million worldwide and becoming the third-highest-grossing film in the U.S. for 2023. Notably, it secured the title of Sony Pictures Animation’s highest-grossing film and earned Best Animated Film at the National Board of Review. The American Film Institute also recognized it as one of the top 10 films of 2023.

Now Chris Miller, one of the writers working on the sequel project, has an update for fans regarding the ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’

“We’re in production… we’re really excited about where the story is going, I think it’s a very satisfying conclusion to the trilogy, and it’s as emotional as the other ones… we’re knee-deep in it.”

Phil Lord also jokingly added the movie will be released in theaters. In December 2021, Lord and Miller confirmed a third film in the ‘Spider-Verse’ series, initially named ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part Two)’ and slated for a 2023 release. By April 2022, it got a new title, ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.’ Amid concerns about production delays, Lord and Miller emphasized taking the necessary time for quality. In July 2023, the film was removed from the schedule due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, with ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’ taking its release date. Following the strike’s end in November 2023, voice recording for the film resumed, and now Lord and Miller confirmed that they are “knee-deep” in the production.

Besides the ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse,’ ‘Spider-Women’ spinoff is also in development that focuses on three generations of female Spider-People. However, Lord and Miller aren’t directly related to the spinoff, as Bek Smith is writing it, and Lauren Montgomery is directing it.

Fans are glad for any piece of information they can get, especially since the threequel is supposed to be an emotional sendoff for Miles Morales, who quickly became the primary person that the younger generations think of when you say Spider-Man, despite this being it for Miles, there are increasing rumors about him eventually ending up in the MCU.
