Christopher Ford Finally Reveals The Species of ‘Skeleton Crew’s’ Fan-Favorite Character
Star Wars’ most recent installment is behind us as ‘Skeleton Crew’ finally wrapped up its run. The final episode has seen the storyline wrap up neatly, but we still didn’t get a confirmation regarding one specific detail in the story – which species does Neel belong to? Played by Robert Timothy Smith, Neel’s origins remained a mystery, much like the enigmatic species of fan favorites like Grogu and Yoda.
However, during a recent interview with Collider’s Maggie Lovitt, creators Jon Watts and Christopher Ford finally shared the truth. Initially hesitant to spill the details, Ford later confirmed off-camera that Neel and his equally delightful family belong to the Myykian species.
Myykians were a species of blue-skinned, elephant-like humanoids with trunk-like noses and two eyes. Some also had hair.
The Myykian species was created specifically for this character, so we can leave various theories from the past behind – finally.
The earlier theory about Neel’s species suggested that he might belong to the same species as Max Rebo, the blue, elephant-like musician from the original Star Wars trilogy, known as an Ortolan. Fans speculated this because Neel, like Max, has blue skin and a trunk-like nose. Which is as good of a connection as any.
‘Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’ received positive reviews, with 91% from critics and 81% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. It ranks just behind ‘Andor,’ which is extremely positive but the show’s future is at this moment still uncertain taking into account that its premiere also had the lowest Star Wars show viewership yet.
