A few days ago, it was revealed that Christopher Nolan’s next movie will be an adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey. Universal Pictures announced it as a global action epic using new IMAX technology, set to release on July 17, 2026.

The film features a star-studded cast, including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron. Production is planned to start in early 2025, with Nolan writing and producing alongside Emma Thomas under their Syncopy banner.

The Odyssey is one of the oldest stories still read today. It follows the Greek hero Odysseus on his difficult journey home after the Trojan War.

Industry insider Daniel Richtman shared updates about the movie. He thinks Universal announced the project early to avoid leaks. The film will include big-name stars, with casting news coming soon. Unlike realistic adaptations like Troy, Nolan will focus on the mythical and fantastical parts of The Odyssey, which is a new approach for him.

A few days ago, I started hearing that they were casting multiple new roles for Nolan’s next film, specifically for Greek characters. I didn’t know it was The Odyssey, but that was a big clue. I assume that’s why Universal went ahead and revealed it—they knew it was going to leak.

I’m hearing that other big names are involved in the film, and casting announcements should come soon. I also hear this won’t be a grounded take on the story, like Troy. Nolan will remain faithful to the more fantastical nature of The Odyssey, which is a first for him, as even his sci-fi films tend to feel somewhat grounded in reality.

Tom Holland shared that he joined Christopher Nolan’s new movie without knowing much about it. On a podcast, he mentioned that Nolan gave a short pitch but has kept most details secret. Holland is excited and trusts Nolan will reveal more when ready.

The director has stayed quiet about the project, but with Universal likely working to prevent leaks, more updates might come soon.
