Christopher Nolan Wanted Robert Downey Jr. in ‘The Odyssey’ According to Latest Rumor

Christopher Nolan had a big plan for The Odyssey. He wanted Robert Downey Jr. to take on the role of Poseidon, the powerful god of the sea. It would have been a huge casting move, bringing RDJ into an epic mythology film. But there was a problem.
RDJ’s schedule is packed, and there was no room for The Odyssey at the time. He’s fully committed to working on Avengers: Doomsday, another major project that kept him too busy to join Nolan’s film. That means Nolan’s vision for The Odyssey will have to do without the Oscar-winner’s talents.
It’s not hard to see why Nolan would want him. RDJ has been on fire, especially after his Oscar-winning performance in Oppenheimer. Seeing him as Poseidon, a god with a vengeful streak, could have been something special. But unless something drastic changes, it seems that we won’t be seeing him in the role.
Nolan had to find another actor to play the role, and while we don’t have any details, he probably has found the replacement for one of the story’s biggest role.
But Downey’s scheduling issues are a major bummer since RDJ brings a unique presence to every project he is working on. But, it could be possible that Nolan will adjust the filming process or wait for RDJ to free up, although that seems unlikely.
This update comes from DanielRPK via Patreon, and while things can always change in Hollywood, for now, Nolan’s Odyssey is moving forward without RDJ.
