The world of Batman stands as one of the most captivating and enduring comic book universes ever created. Originally brought to life by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, this universe has grown into a masterpiece of intricate world-building and character development, setting a gold standard in the realm of superhero storytelling.
Over the years, this rich mythos has inspired countless adaptations across various media, from blockbuster films to beloved TV series and acclaimed video games. However, today’s focus is on a groundbreaking audio series that has captured the hearts of fans worldwide—and is now preparing for its highly anticipated sequel.
When Batman Unburied first premiered, it became an instant sensation, now, we’re thrilled to share the exciting news: the second season of this critically acclaimed audio drama is on its way—and it’s arriving sooner than you might expect!
Created by superhero storytelling legend David S. Goyer, Batman Unburied debuted on Spotify in 2022. This audio drama spanned 10 episodes and featured Black Panther star Winston Duke in the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. The series was a massive success, so it’s no surprise that Goyer quickly began developing a second season.
We’re excited to confirm that the follow-up, titled Batman Unburied: Fallen City, is set to premiere on Spotify on November 26, 2024—just a few days away!
This new season will consist of eight episodes, all dropping simultaneously, a departure from the weekly release format of the first season. The series promises to delve even deeper into the tortured psyche of Gotham’s Dark Knight. According to an official synopsis shared by Variety, here’s what fans can expect:
As Gotham City is plagued by seismic tremors, Bruce Wayne and Harvey Dent launch a social program that rattles the city’s elites yet earns praise from the city’s newest masked figure: the Oracle of Gotham. But when Harvey goes missing, Batman is forced to descend into the city’s labyrinthian underground, uncovering a horrific conspiracy by a secret society that has ruled Gotham for ages, one that has ties to his parents’ tragic murder.
While Two-Face works to puppeteer the strings of law and order, Batman must defend his life — and his city — before everything he knows and loves turns to rubble.
As mentioned, Colman Domingo will take over the role of Batman from Winston Duke in the upcoming season, joined by a stellar cast including Gina Rodriguez as Barbara Gordon and Jason Isaacs as Alfred Pennyworth.
The ensemble also features Morena Baccarin (Allie), André Holland (Harvey Dent/Two-Face), Cheech Marin (Jim Gordon), Tahar Rahim (The Patriarch), and Alan Ruck (Coby Williamson).
The audio drama is written and executive produced by Saladin Ahmed, with Jess Carson and Meghan Fitzmartin also contributing as writers. Alex Kemp serves as the director, while executive producers include David S. Goyer, Keith Levine, and Gracie Wheelan. The production team includes Chica Barbosa, Alex Kemp, and Winnie Kemp, with Jonathan Snipes composing the series’ music.
