In case you missed it, the DCU recently confirmed its Hal Jordan for the Lanterns series, with potential appearances in future projects as well.

While Josh Brolin was a top contender, other rumored names included Ewan McGregor, Timothy Olyphant, and Chris Pine. However, the role ultimately went to Kyle Chandler, a choice that has sparked mixed reactions among fans.

Meanwhile, speculation about who would play John Stewart, the series’ primary Green Lantern, has been swirling for some time.

Now, it’s official—HBO has cast Aaron Pierre in the role. Known for his praised performance in Netflix’s Rebel Ridge, Pierre’s casting is seen as a major win for the Lanterns series.

As we know, John Stewart is set to be the main focus of the Lanterns series, but surprisingly, there had been relatively little buzz about who would take on the role. While we speculated on potential reasons for this lack of interest, it remained a curious fact.

Not long ago, insider DanielRPK reported that Kelvin Harrison Jr. was the front-runner for the role, marking the first solid rumor we had heard.

Since then, the rumor mill picked up steam until today, when we finally got official confirmation—Aaron Pierre will portray John Stewart!

Pierre, who recently played an ex-Marine in Netflix’s action film Rebel Ridge, will also voice a young Mufasa in Disney’s The Lion King prequel later this year.

His other notable roles include The Underground Railroad on Amazon, the indie film Foe, M. Night Shyamalan’s Old, Nat Geo’s Genius: MLK/X (as Malcolm X), and Apple’s The Morning Show.

Many fans had hoped Pierre would be cast, so this news will likely thrill those eagerly awaiting the series. HBO and the DCU have secured a major talent, signaling big plans for the character moving forward—an exciting development for sure.
