With the release of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Channing Tatum finally got the opportunity to play Gambit. The actor’s story with the character is nearly 2 decades long and goes back to ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ released in 2006.

He auditioned for the role but was ultimately cut from the movie, the opportunity presented itself for him to “reprise” his role in ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ in 2009 but he was unavailable and the role went to Taylor Kitsch instead.

Now we know that Tatum almost got his standalone movie, but when Fox merged with Disney the project was after a long development shelved forever. Tatum played the character in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ which he describes as a “dream come true” and is now advocating for an MCU-solo-based movie, with plenty of fans supporting the notion of him being the MCU main variant of Gambit.

However, there are some fans that refuse the notion, claiming that Taylor Kitsch’s Gambit was a more accurate portrayal of the character, and surprisingly a lot of fans agreed with that citing that Taylor Kitsch has a much better screen presence and body type to play him.

What’s everyone’s opinion on Taylor Kitsch’s Gambit? I thought he was okay

I don’t know if this is controversial or not, but I always thought Kitsch was a much better fit for Gambit than Channing Tatum.

I just think that Kitsch has more charisma and swag, he’s more suave,  and from what I’ve seen, is a better actor than Tatum. I mean…. look at him, Kitsch is the most Gambit looking dude I’ve ever seen.

It’s genuinely frustrating knowing that Fox had some great actors, who resembled their comic book counterparts, but they were wasted or written poorly.

James Marsden as Cyclops, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Taylor Kitsch as Gambit, Caleb Landry Jones as Banshee, Olivia Munn as Psylocke, Ben Foster as Angel, hell even Liev Schreiber as Sabertooth. All great castings in my opinion, but most, if not all, of them were just wasted.

Regarding Channing Tatum, I’ve always thought he’s just the weirdest body type to play him, and I was proven right.

Great choice….horrible directing and writing.

Definitely a better fit for Gambit than Tatum, but was kneecapped by other parts of the creative process. All the swagger in the world can’t save a character after that fire escape scene.

This is not all that controversial opinion, despite majority of fans supporting Tatum’s solo Gambit movie, the actor received quite a lot of criticism online mostly due to his accent. Even that however is a heated issue since some fans who live in Southern Louisiana claim that Tatum’s Cajun accent is nothing like the real deal and some claiming that he nailed it perfectly.
