When James Gunn took over the struggling DCEU, he decided to revamp it entirely and create a new fictional universe. The first chapter will be called “Gods and Monsters.” Even though the new DCU hasn’t officially started, Gunn has already confirmed many upcoming projects. One of these is the much-anticipated animated series “Creature Commandos,” which will bring together several DC Comics characters for a wild adventure that fans are sure to enjoy. The series is set to release in December 2024, and a first-look presentation was held at the 2024 Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Our friends at NexusPointNews shared the details from the festival with us.
In short, “Creature Commandos” is an original project led by James Gunn, who said: “Creature Commandos is an animated series. I’ve written all the episodes. We’re going to do something a little different at DC by having characters move into animation and out of animation, usually with the same actor voicing them as in live-action.”
“Creature Commandos” is an intriguing project. The series will act as an animated continuation of Gunn’s “Suicide Squad” and “Peacemaker” projects. It will follow Amanda Waller as she forms a new team of mercenaries, the most bizarre and wildest one yet. As of now, the confirmed characters and their voice actors include:
- Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr.
- Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic
- Indira Varma as the Bride of Frankenstein
- Zoë Chao as Nina Mazursky
- Alan Tudyk as Doctor Phosphorus
- David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein
- Sean Gunn as G.I. Robot and Weasel
- Steve Agee as John Economos
- Viola Davis as Amanda Waller
- Anya Chalotra as Circe
As you can see, there are many exciting names on this list. Knowing how Gunn crafts unique stories, we’re in for a dynamic show.
Our friends from NexusPointNews attended the Annecy event and shared the following information about the show:
