The Star Wars universe is one of the largest fictional worlds ever created. What began as George Lucas’ original movie concept has since expanded into a massive universe filled with thousands, if not millions, of stories.
In addition to the main films, series like The Mandalorian and The Acolyte have gained significant attention, and while not all have been equally successful, they’ve become key parts of modern pop culture.
Recently, after the conclusion of The Acolyte, we reported that Disney and Lucasfilm confirmed plans to release three new Star Wars movies between 2026 and 2027. One of these films is set to be a standalone story centered on Rey, played by Daisy Ridley in the Sequel Trilogy.
Although the movie was reportedly progressing, recent reports suggest it’s now facing delays as Disney and Lucasfilm may be focusing on other projects for the time being. Amid these rumors, Daisy Ridley has spoken about her potential return, and we’ll share what she had to say.
The upcoming film, tentatively titled New Jedi Order, was meant to follow Episode IX of the Sequel Trilogy, focusing on Rey as she establishes a new Jedi Order. Daisy Ridley is set to reprise her role as Rey, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy from a script by Steven Knight.
While the movie was reportedly in pre-production with no official release date, recent rumors suggest that the project is being delayed, meaning it may be a while before Rey returns to the screen. Amid these speculations, Daisy Ridley spoke with Premiere and shared some intriguing details about her return:
Your return to Star Wars will be very different from when you first joined: at the time of Episode 7’s release, the franchise had been dormant in theaters for decades, whereas New Jedi Order will arrive in a world where Star Wars is absolutely everywhere…
My thoughts on the subject are quite simple: if I didn’t think the story was worth telling, I wouldn’t have come back.
But you had the choice to refuse?
Yes, of course.
There wasn’t a contract forcing you to return?
No, they simply asked if I wanted to do it, based on an idea, without the script being written yet. But if I hadn’t been convinced by the concept, the movie wouldn’t have been made. I took a day to think about it and I told myself that I had had great times making those films. This new adventure seemed fun to me, so why say no?
Additionally, a strange coincidence happened: two people told me in the same week that they’d love to know what Rey is up to now. I had no idea there was such interest! People really love Rey. I think this new movie will be exciting and will move the franchise forward in an interesting way.

Ridley expresses that she is returning only because Lucasfilm has an engaging story to share, which is certainly exciting news. While the future of the movie remains uncertain, be sure to stay tuned for all the latest updates!
