One of the biggest news in the past ten days in Hollywood is the Writers Guild of America striking for better salaries and work conditions for all writers in the Hollywood industry. We briefly covered the topic by discussing the Blade being postponed for a later date (once again) and speculating about other MCU projects being affected during the event. It seems that Blade was just the beginning since Daredevil: Born Again was already filming, and the Disney+ series was expected to be in production until November 2023.

Unfortunately for Daredevil fans, Daredevil: Born Again production stopped amid the WGA strikes in Hollywood, marking the second Marvel project officially postponed in the last ten days. We don’t count Loki season two, in which Marvel Studios postponed the show’s release date from September to October 2023 due to “story fixes” or post-production finishing touches.

Since our previous report, it seems that writer strikes will not be resolved soon since various filming and publishing companies refuse to budge on WGA demands, who are proposing deals for the better payment of the writers on the projects and fees for potential re-airs of the said projects.

This is the first writers’ strike in Hollywood since 2007, but this time it seems that writers have massive support over social media and pull that will eventually lead to studios agreeing to the demands or at least negotiating better conditions for the workers.

Daredevil: Born Again is in the middle of filming, which started only recently. According to Deadline, WGA members set up a sunrise picket at Silvercup East, where the show was supposed to be filming these days. The filming wrapped up at 1 pm ET on the 8th of May, and reports suggest there wasn’t filming at all.

WGA Strikes in Hollywood: What About Future Marvel Projects?

The series’ shooting started two months ago in New York, and it seems that the expected ending of the production, which was originally in November, will be massively affected by the strikes.

When protesters, or WGA, put up “picket fences” on the filming locations or release the statement that they are aborting all writers’ work across Hollywood, the said writers need to stop doing their work. This is the act of protests that members of the writers guild have been doing in the last ten days.

We don’t know anything else about Daredevil: Born Again production state news, and it seems until the studios finally secure better work environments for their workers, we will see more and more projects being put on hold.

There are rumors that Captain America 4 movie will most likely be affected by the strikes as well; since the MCU production always has script changes or additions during production, we might need to wait to see Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America.

As of writing this article, more and more shows and movies have been postponed due to writers’ strikes, projects like Succession, Billions, Evil, Severance, and more, and we can expect more postponed projects from Marvel Studios in the coming days.

Daredevil: Born Again is an upcoming Disney+ series that follows Matt Murdoch, an attorney by day, but a protector of Hell’s Kitchen, Daredevil, by night. The show is written by Matt Corman and Chris Ord, and the cast includes Charlie Cox as Daredevil, and Vince D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin. The other cast members include Michael Gandolfini, Sandrine Holt, Nikki M. James, Jon Bernthal as Punisher, and more.

The show was formerly scheduled to be released sometime in 2024, but it seems that Marvel Studios will have to reschedule its release date – and for other projects of MCU as well.
