‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Initially Considered Killing Off Foggy! That’s Likely To Happen But Not in the Way You Think

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ spent some time in development hell. The show was initially imagined as a courtroom drama involving little Daredevil action. In late September 2023, after filming six out of the 18 episodes, Marvel Studios decided to change the direction of the show.
The original head writers, Corman and Ord, along with the other directors, were let go after executives watched the footage and felt the series “wasn’t working.”
Their approach was quite different from the Netflix version, which meant Charlie Cox wouldn’t appear as Daredevil until the fourth episode. Marvel planned to keep some of the filmed scenes while adding new elements and moving closer to the tone of the original Netflix series.
Fans also realized that Elden Henson’s Foggy and Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen won’t be a part of the reboot. This caused significant backlash, especially when insider reports revealed that they planned to kill them off between the events of Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ and ‘Born Again.’
The show was eventually scrapped and reshot. Fans were overjoyed to find out that both Karen and Foggy were written back to the show. The two could clearly be seen on set. But, there’s a huge but coming.
Insider reports stated that either Karen or Foggy are still set to die within the first few episodes of the show. The recently leaked set videos support that rumor, considering that in one of the videos Karen can be seen kneeling over what appears to be Foggy’s lifeless (or unconscious body).
Foggy might still be “killed off” in the show for maximum emotional impact, but he won’t be gone, not truly. It’s also one of the most intriguing Foggy’s stories that the MCU can adapt.
‘The Devil in Cell-Block D’ by Ed Brubaker presents the MCU with an opportunity to raise the stakes for Daredevil, making him angrier and more bitter than ever, all the while setting up an amazing plot twist for Foggy.
In the story, Matt is outed as Daredevil by the media and subsequently arrested. During a prison visit from Foggy and private investigator Dakota North, Foggy was stabbed by several inmates and seriously injured.
Matt could hear his friend’s heartbeat fade, and Foggy was later pronounced dead after being taken away in an ambulance. Murdock attended Foggy’s funeral, where Foggy’s mother, Rosalind Sharpe, blamed him for her son’s death.
It was later revealed that Foggy had not died but was placed in the FBI’s witness protection program, where he was recovering and starting a new identity. In an attempt to reunite with Matt, he tries to escape but is captured by the mafia. However, the mafia was subsequently killed by ninjas from the Hand, who were following orders from Elektra.
The ninjas returned Foggy to his original captors, warning him that they would be watching him.
Foggy was eventually released and reunited with Matt Murdock. They decided to relocate their law office and operate on a referral-only basis to avoid attracting attention from Daredevil’s enemies, with Becky Blake joining them as a new law partner.
We don’t know whether this story will be adapted, but there is some evidence that supports our theory. Primarily, the set videos that show Foggy seemingly dead, and the presence of Vanessa Fisk.
Ayelet Zurer was spotted on the set as well, and her character will undoubtedly be connected to Kingpin first and foremost, but Vanessa played a massive part in Foggy faking his own death.
In the story, Vanessa developed a terminal illness and sought to settle all her “debts.” From a distance, she orchestrated the operations leading to the arrests of both Matt Murdock and her husband, Wilson Fisk, including faking Foggy’s murder and hiring Iron Fist to impersonate Daredevil in Hell’s Kitchen.
Having Iron Fist impersonate Daredevil also quite nicely connects with the rumors that he will appear in the MCU!
Vanessa also manipulated Tombstone and Lily Lucca to lead Murdock on a journey across Europe, motivated by revenge against Daredevil and Wilson for her predicament.
