We are less than a month from the continuation of arguably Netflix’s most popular Marvel adaptation, Daredevil. As October 19th draws closer, Marvel and Netflix are beginning to drop clues and suggestions as to what the season may be about.

One of those clues happens to the below image. The image, which draws heavy influence from the comics, depicts Daredevil perched next to a cross.

It’s no surprise that the marketing department decided to use this kind of imagery. Religion, Catholicism, and Christianity all play a major role in the Daredevil mythos. In fact, Matt often finds himself in conflict with his duties as a Catholic and as Daredevil. Because of this, he’s often found in the company of religion in times of trouble.

All coming together

As it relates to Season 3, this only makes sense. At the conclusion of The Defenders, Matt Murdock was found in a Nunnery under the care of, well, nuns. The series fades to black with the words, “Tell her he’s awake.”

This is a direct reference to his mother Maggie whom left he and his father shortly after his birth. This event, and her return were seminole moments in the Frank Miller masterpiece, Daredevil Born Again.

Born again follows the exploits of Matt Murdock, who, after the Kingpin finds out who he is, watches as his life crumbles before him. And how does Kingpin learn of this? Matt’s on and off again girlfriend, Karen Page.

All seems to point to Season 3 adopting the Born Again storyline. And I for one, couldn’t be happier. Born Again is a must-read story in Daredevil’s long history. It beautifully illustrates what happens to a man when they reach their lowest point.

Daredevil Season 3 is set to release October 19th. If it’s anything like the other two seasons, we are in for a ride.

Oh, and in case you’re wondering, I’ll be glued to my television binge watching it.

Cheers,

Joel
