Dario Scardapane On Whether We Will See More of Karen in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 1

The new Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again has fans talking, especially after its wild start. The show brings back familiar faces like Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock (Daredevil), Vincent D’Onofrio, Jon Bernthal, and Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page.

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

But a major twist in the first episode has left viewers wondering about Karen’s future. Elden Henson’s character, Franklin “Foggy” Nelson—Matt’s best friend and a fan favorite—was killed off, shocking everyone. After that, Karen moves to San Francisco, cutting ties with Matt, her former love interest from the original Netflix series. She didn’t even appear in episode two, making fans ask: will she play a big part in this show?

Showrunner Dario Scardapane recently addressed these concerns. Some called Karen’s role “limited,” but he pushed back on that idea. “Limited presence I would question,” he said. “There are things to be revealed.” He hinted at more to come, adding, “Because it is this [superhero] world, don’t count everything out quite yet. There are returns that I think are surprising and inevitable.” This suggests Karen could return in a big way, either later in Season 1 or in the already-confirmed Season 2.

The series had a rocky start behind the scenes. Production stopped during the SAG-AFTRA strike, and the original plan didn’t include Woll or Henson. After the break, Marvel retooled the show to match the tone of the 2015-2018 Netflix series. Scardapane came on board and added a new opening episode featuring Karen and Foggy.

But some episodes were already filmed before the changes, so Karen might not show up much in the early part of Season 1. Still, her confirmed role in Season 2 promises a bigger presence later. Fans also wonder if she could pop up in other Marvel projects, like a Special Presentation tied to Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, since the two characters share a connection in the comics.

Karen’s move to San Francisco caught attention too. In the comics, Matt Murdock has lived there at times. In the MCU, the city is home to heroes like Ant-Man, The Wasp, and Shang-Chi. This could mean Marvel is setting up a link between Daredevil’s gritty world and these other characters, maybe even before Avengers: Doomsday.

Fans love Woll’s take on Karen, who started as a tragic figure in the comics but became a strong, beloved character on screen. Many hope she’ll be Matt’s true partner, much like Pepper Potts is for Tony Stark. For now, her future in Daredevil: Born Again remains unclear, but Scardapane’s words give hope she’ll be back soon.
