Dave Bautista Seemingly Confirms He’s Done with Drax Role & That We Won’t See the OG MCU Guardians of the Galaxy Again

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” came out over a year ago and marked several key moments in the MCU. While other MCU projects struggled, the third movie in the ‘Guardians’ series was a hit with both critics and at the box office.

If you’ve seen the movie, you know that the team eventually broke up, with each member heading off in different directions. Star-Lord returned to Earth to reconnect with his human roots, while Gamora joined the Ravagers. Mantis chose to follow her own path and explore her own goals. Meanwhile, Nebula and Drax stayed on Knowhere to care for the children rescued from the High Evolutionary’s ship.

The MCU has a new Guardians of the Galaxy team made up of Groot, Kraglin, Cosmo, Adam Warlock, Phyla, and Blurp, with Rocket Raccoon as their new leader.Star-Lord is hinted to return, and Chris Pratt has said several times that he’s open to more adventures as the character. Pom Klementieff and Karen Gillan, who play Mantis and Nebula, haven’t ruled out continuing their roles.

Shortly after the release of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” Zoe Saldana confirmed that she’s finished playing Gamora, and Dave Bautista also said he’s done with his role because he doesn’t want to be typecast. Bautista has since been looking for more meaningful roles, possibly in the DCU, as James Gunn recently asked fans to suggest a role for him.

In his most recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bautista explained that the chances of him returning to the MCU are non-existent. The actor states that he doesn’t miss his character but does miss that sense of family he managed to build with his co-stars:

I wouldn’t say I miss [Drax]. What I do miss is the family environment. It’s hard knowing that we will never be on set together again. Me, Chris, Zoe, Pom, Karen, Sean Gunn, James Gunn — it’s never going to happen again. It’s hard to live with that. Our last night filming was here in Hollywood, and we wrapped at 3 or 4 in the morning. And then I literally had to run to the hotel, get my bags, jump on a jet and fly to Philadelphia to start Knock at the Cabin two days later.

I was then on another film, and I didn’t do press or make the premiere for Guardians 3. So there’s just a huge part of me that feels like there was no closure. I never really got to say goodbye to that character and that cast, and there’s always going to be some sadness involved when I start thinking about that.

Even if the cast somehow magically reunites, Bautista is correct when it comes to one thing, it’s never going to be the same again since Gunn is now heading his own cinematic universe, and it’s been hinted in the past that he is going to hire at least some of the cast from the ‘Guardians’ franchise.

His brother, Sean has already been cast as Maxwell Lord, something which fans heavily criticized, and as I’ve mentioned before the director was looking for a role for Bautista a couple of months back.

Based on all the statements from the former cast, we don’t have to expect the OG Guardians to reunite anytime soon, the new lineup will continue for time being. What do you think about that? Let us know in the comments below!
