Dave Filoni Drops Exciting Update on ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2:“I’m Well Into Writing It”

Originally planned as a miniseries, Ahsoka evolved into discussions about a second season, depending on the success of the first. After the show’s full release in October 2023, Dave Filoni shifted his focus from his upcoming Star Wars crossover film to exploring a follow-up season for Ahsoka.

In January 2024, Lucasfilm confirmed that Filoni was officially working on Ahsoka Season 2, aligning with his new role as Lucasfilm’s chief creative officer, where he oversees future Star Wars projects.

While details about the second season remain scarce, Filoni recently shared an update. He revealed that he is deeply involved in writing the new season as its sole writer. Although he enjoys the process, he admitted that crafting and resolving the story arcs has been a challenging but rewarding experience.

“I’m so well into that as well. I’ve been writing it. I’m still the single writer on it. So I’m enjoying doing that, but it’s a challenge of course. Working some of these arcs through has been a challenge.”

One of the biggest challenges in Ahsoka Season 2 is how to handle the character of Baylan Skoll, played by Ray Stevenson. In the first season’s final episode, Baylan’s true plans were left a mystery, with him seen looking at the statues of the Mortis Gods on Peridea, hinting at his future goals. Filoni described Baylan as a man with dangerous ambition.

Sadly, Stevenson passed away on May 21, 2023, just days before his 59th birthday. The cause of his death has not been publicly revealed, but it is known that he was hospitalized during filming for Cassino in Ischia on the Italian island of Ischia.

Now, the question is, what will happen to the character that was meant to play a big role in the Star Wars franchise? Some reports suggest that the role will be recast for the second season.

There have been rumors that Ahsoka season 2 will finish its story completely, just in case the show doesn’t get renewed for season 3.
