David Corenswet Calls Superman His Most Challenging Role: “A Dichotomy Dictated by a Circumstances”

With the launch of a new era in the DC Cinematic Universe comes a fresh take on Superman. This time, the iconic role of Clark Kent has been entrusted to David Corenswet. While some fans were initially hesitant—largely due to Henry Cavill’s beloved portrayal—any doubts quickly faded when the first official look at Corenswet in the role was revealed. From that moment, it was clear that he was a worthy successor.

So far, both the cast and crew of the upcoming film have had nothing but praise for Corenswet’s performance. However, in a recent interview with GQ Italia, the actor opened up about the immense challenge of stepping into Superman’s shoes. He described it as the most demanding role of his career, both in terms of scope and physicality.

Corenswet emphasized the complexity of portraying two sides of the same person—Clark Kent and Superman—whose differences are shaped by external circumstances, the world around them, and the burden of keeping a secret identity

Playing Superman was the most challenging role of my career for its scope and physical demands. Two sides of the same person, a dichotomy dictated by circumstances, the environment and the secret. I focus on doing my best for the director, the crew and my colleagues who have worked at the top of their abilities for months or years. If I do well for them, I think I’ve done everything possible.

Rather than focusing on external pressures or expectations, Corenswet explained that his primary goal was to give his best performance for the director, crew, and fellow actors, all of whom had dedicated months or even years to the project. He believes that if he succeeds in delivering for them, then he has done everything within his power to do justice to the role.

‘Superman’ is scheduled to be released on July 11, 2025.
