David Harbour Hints at Big Things To Come in the MCU With the Release of ‘Thunderbolts*’: “It Fundamentally Changes the Course”

This year’s SDCC was full of surprises. The most notable announcements to come out of Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation were definitely the ones tied to the ‘Avengers’ franchise, but, fans of ‘Thunderbolts*’ have gotten a few sneak peeks as well.

‘Thunderbolts*’ is set to arrive in theaters on May 5, 2025, and so far little is known about the movie except for the core members of the team of outcasts and the fact that Sentry will be introduced to the MCU.

During the presentation, the high point was definitely the exclusive footage. The footage starts with Yelena visiting Alexei’s messy apartment and asking if he feels fulfilled. A dramatic version of the Pixies’ “Where is My Mind” plays as the Thunderbolts are assigned the same mission and end up fighting each other. The clip introduces a character named “Bob,” (Pullman’s Sentry) who is shown in a hospital gown, before it ends.

Feige also confirmed once again that the team won’t be named after Thaddeus Ross. The cast described the Thunderbolts team as struggling and reluctant to work together.

Following the reveal ComicBook had the opportunity to talk to David Harbour, set to portray Red Guardian, and he revealed that the upcoming movie is set to “fundamentally change” the MCU:

Our characters are going to interact with something that we don’t really understand, and it fundamentally changes the course of the way things expand. That’s all I’m saying. Oh my God, I’m getting calls tomorrow.

Considering the mysterious nature of Multiverse Saga, we can only speculate as to what Harbour is referring to. However, he is most likely referring to Sentry – one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel comics and his introduction to the MCU. Sentry is set to be portrayed by Lewis Pullman, and the actor himself teased that the character will have powers to shapeshift (although he was most likely thinking about molecular manipulation.)

Sentry is truly set to shake things in the MCU, and a lot of fans have been wondering how Thunderbolts will deal with him in the first place. Sentry’s powers are basically unlimited and he is going up against what are essentially enhanced humans. It was subsequently hinted however that the character will have a no-kill rule in the MCU, meaning that Thunderbolts are protected by a plot armor.
