DC Developing Anime Style Action Series for Kids

It’s going to be busy at Warner Bros. in the next few years. Gunn is developing his DCU from scratch, with the first project, ‘Creature Commandos,’ being bound for release in less than two months. Matt Reeves is also developing his Batman Epic Crime Saga, with ‘The Penguin’ currently airing and ‘The Batman Part II’ scheduled for 2026 release.

There’s also ‘Dynamic Duo’ animated movie being developed in collaboration between Reeves and Gunn. The movie is supposed to follow 2 Robins, Jason Todd, and Dick Grayson during the early days of their careers. The project is as far as we know not connected either to Reeves’ Universe or DCU.

Now one more mystery project has been “unofficially” announced through CN Studios which posted a job posting for animators. According to the job posting the show in development is a DC-based anime-style action show for kids.

Based on the profile of the directors and story-board artists they are looking for, we can assume the show will be an action-comedy.

We can rule out that this is ‘Dynamic Duo’ ad, since that project is confirmed to be a movie a different studio will be developing it. However, we can’t rule out that this project in question isn’t a ‘Blue Beetle’ animated series, since that project was confirmed quite a while ago and it’s being developed by WB Animation.

Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios are developing an animated series to continue the Blue Beetle stories. Miguel Puga will be the showrunner and director, and Cristian Martinez will be the writer.

Angel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, the director and screenwriter of the 2023 film, will executive produce alongside John Rikard. Galen Vaisman will oversee the series for DC Studios.

Many details are still being finalized, including contracts for the main cast, but DC has received positive responses from several actors about returning. The animated series will build on the movie but will tell its own story rather than retelling the film’s plot.

If successful, this series could potentially lead to another big-screen appearance for Blue Beetle. Jaime Reyes is the third character to wear the mantle of the famed superhero.
