‘Creature Commandos’ the first installment of Gunn’s DCU recently concluded its first season. The show was met with positive reviews and overall positive fan reception, which made it a success.

By November 2024, Lorey and Gunn had talked about making a second season, but Lorey said it would only happen if Gunn had time to write more scripts. Gunn also mentioned that he wanted Lorey and the original team to return, even if the story continued as a ‘Creature Commandos’ movie instead of another season. Ahead of the first season’s finale, it was announced that Max had greenlit a second season

Now Lorey has confirmed that ‘Creature Commandos’ Season 2 is already in progress and moving quickly. He explained that the team is currently in the early stages, working on the story and overall structure of the season. DC Studios has given the project a high priority, fast-tracking its production and showing a strong commitment to making it happen.

Lorey: “Yeah. I mean, it’s still early days, but we are actively working on breaking the season and starting to figure that out. So it’s definitely moving forward. I mean, it’s like, they put it on a fast track, and they seem to mean it. So, yeah, we’re in it.”

He hinted that ‘Creature Commandos’ Season 2 might feature a new lineup of characters. He explained that the team intentionally introduced certain characters in the Season 1 finale because they thought they would be exciting to include in the next season.

He specifically mentioned the “beefed-up GI Robot,” who surprised fans with his dramatically larger body in the finale, suggesting that he and other new characters could play a significant role in the upcoming season.

Lorey: “I think it’ll be at least somewhat accurate. I mean, it’s like those are all characters that we think would be really fun in the season. And James [Gunn] wrote, you know, all the episodes last season. So those were his instincts, which are pretty good. So yeah, I would say there’s that and, I mean, there’s no world where I would want to do a season without a beefed up GI Robot.”

A few weeks ago, Princess Ilana actress Maria Bakalova expressed her strong commitment to the role, saying she would love to return—even though her character is dead. She suggested that Princess Ilana could possibly come back through magic or other supernatural means.
