DC Gives a First Look at Absolute Freeze Debuting in ‘Absolute Batman’ – It’s Different (& Disturbing)

The Absolute Universe’s Batman has faced many tough challenges, and now he is set to confront a frightening new version of Mr. Freeze. A preview from Bleeding Cool gives us a look at what to expect in DC’s upcoming May releases. In Absolute Batman #8, our Dark Knight meets a powerful and disturbing Mr. Freeze.

This version of Mr. Freeze is very different from his Prime Universe self. He is a giant with long, thin limbs that remind us of Slenderman. His eyes glow red, and his mouth shows bared fangs. There are also strange blue vials embedded in his back.

The new Absolute Universe started just a few months ago, bringing fresh takes on both heroes and villains. Many of Batman’s old foes, such as the Penguin and the Riddler, have been reimagined as his childhood friends in this world. Still, some villains remain true to their roots but are even harsher here. Black Mask is now an international criminal who leads armed gangs to attack vulnerable towns, and although he appears only briefly, the Joker shows up as one of the world’s richest and most ruthless billionaires.

Writer Scott Snyder has teased this version of Mr. Freeze for months, and now we see how this world has changed the usually tragic villain. We still wonder what made Victor Fries turn out this way. Was it simply an experiment gone wrong, or is there something darker behind it, as hinted by the Ark M project that Absolute Batman has begun to investigate? Whatever the reason, Batman now faces his first real supervillain.
