‘X-Men ’97’ was a surprise hit for Marvel Studios and the majority of that success was due to Beau DeMayo’s writing and familiarity with both old animated series and source material. This is why fans were shocked that DeMayo was fired by the studio just weeks before the first season’s premiere.

The writer and the studio for the most part refused to comment on the firing and fans could only speculate about what happened. Some insider reports mostly focused on the rumors that it was due to DeMayo being difficult to work with and due to his OnlyFans account, which was non-NSFW.

In the last couple of weeks, however, DeMayo slowly started calling out his former employer for discriminatory behavior. DeMayo did not receive an invitation to the Emmy Awards despite his show (X-Men ’97) being nominated. He also alleged that his writing credits for season 2 had been suddenly removed allegedly due to posting LGBT-oriented artowark related to the show:

Now it’s clear that DeMayo is trying to imply that he has been censored by Disney due to his orientation and he strongly feels that the removal of his season 2 credits has been connected to that however, Disney decided to comment on the matter as well, shedding disturbing light on the show incident:

“Mr. DeMayo was terminated in March 2024 following an internal investigation, given the egregious nature of the findings, we severed ties with him immediately, and he has no further affiliation with Marvel.”

Following DeMayo’s exit from Marvel, an agreement was made regarding his tweets about the show. Due to breaches, his credit for season two was removed. Although the exact reasons for his termination remain undisclosed, sources suggest it involved sexual misconduct.

DeMayo, known for his active social media presence, was once celebrated as a prominent gay Marvel writer. However, the removal of his credit likely stems from deeper issues revealed by an internal investigation, rather than just his social media activity. DeMayo has not commented on the situation.
